It’s driving me crazy how the DOT works....drive the crane down the road on its 8 wheels with no pilot truck. Put the crane on a low boy and BAM!!! Got to have it sitting on 80+ wheels a pre approved route, and a pilot vehicle. SERIOUSLY? Am I the only one here?
@fbobertz5 жыл бұрын
Ever thought about that the crane maybe new and not already sold? So why do miles when its lowering the selling price?
@jaywilliamson98603 жыл бұрын
Every state is different on length and weight laws as well as when pilot vehicles are required. As far as hauling one and driving on to the show, a lot depends on where it came from. Might be a local company from the set up they had. I have hauled pieces of equipment out of Vegas that was at the show and driven to another yard where it could be taken apart to be transported. Not everything is as it seems when watching a video.

Question: do you need a CDL to drive a crane like the second one shown on the video? If so what kind - A or B? These cranes of course drive on the street.
@DREAMMACHINEShh6 жыл бұрын
in Germany/Europe you need a truck license for such cranes. I don't know the law in the USA

I never understood why cranes need to have their boom offloaded on an extra dolly. It has to do with weight distribution i get that but are roads really that shit there?
@DREAMMACHINEShh3 жыл бұрын
could be one reason. Or especially the bridges like e.g. in Germany. We have speed limits for heavy machinery for the worst bridges but no crane uses this kind of dolly. I bet nobody in Europe.
@7249xxl3 жыл бұрын
@@DREAMMACHINEShh nah Netherlands here. I get it small country especially compared to the usa but still are roads really that shit? They made these cranes to have extraordinarily weight distribution.
@7249xxl3 жыл бұрын
@@DREAMMACHINEShh Another example is wind farm construction here. We have LTM11200 driving with boom, Luffing Jib and counter weight on steel plates and grass and it hardly leaves a mark.

What are the weight limits in Nevada seems a little overkill for some of the loads
@Sdukes0014 жыл бұрын
I dont think it's overkill the boom truck there weighs close to 80k so I'm sure the bigger cranes are much heavier.

Miles vs Fuel/Tire and Maintenance and insurance. Most drive up to 200 miles on their own, other times it costs less to trailer when the distance is greater.
