Long post but works. Trust me! I am not a professional mechanic nor do I work in the mining industry. I'm just a girl into hot rodding. Had my share of nasty stuff like dirty rags with road grime from the undercarriage, mineral spirts, gasoline, motor oil... and the big daddy of them all: GEAR OIL. That stuff reeks! Dish soap is what kills the washing machine pump. Learned that lesson the hard way. It doesn't ruin the washer itself though. Some youtube videos, $20 for a new pump, and a couple hours later and I was back in business. As a plus I also repaired my torn washing machine seal (that was much harder than the pump). Appliances are usually pretty easy to fix and I'm not expert. Just everything I've had break I was able to DIY with youtube. So here are my tricks: Stuff that reeks from long distance... ie volatiles like gasoline and mineral spirts: any rags or clothes with those on them leave them outside and let them "off gas" for a few days. Dirty stuff that stinks at close range. Depends how stinky and how dirty. Optional step (can skip this step if not too bad) for this for really stinky/dirty stuff: soak it in a bucket with a lot of dish soap and water. Hand wash it. With disposable gloves :p After this step, make sure you really hose the stuff off (or put in a bucket with just water) and try to get all the dish soap out. Wash your clothes in the machine machine. Add some soda (coke, diet dr. pepper, doesn't matter) and simple green (very little!) to the wash. After washing, clean the drum with simple green and paper towels. Then before you wash your normal clothes, put some clean rags (old clothes) in the wash. Make sure the washing machine is mostly full, but not totally stuffed. Add more simple green and soda. What this will do is clean the drum with the rags scrubbing the drum and each other for you...

In your washer. Before adding clothes. Pick the setting that washes longer. Probably “whites”. Let the water start to fill. Hot water best for extra dirty. Add 1/3 cup of borax, 1/3 cup baking soda. 4 second squirt of dawn dish liquid. (Real stinky. Add 1/2 cup Pine sol.) Add clothes. 1/2 cup of vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser. Close the lid and wait. Works great.

I'm here because my husband constantly has diesel on his clothes. I've been washing them in washer and dryer, now it smells like I dumped diesel in them.... Is there a way to wash or get the smell out of the appliances? All of our clothes now smell like diesel.
@sonofmontezuma37322 жыл бұрын
Been there , best answer is not popular (by the way )1st was his stuff in his own dedicated washer or wash at laundry Matt, I have had mixed results chemicals tend to affect different fabrics differently, but I wash my stuff if Súper bad I will spray tub with purple power cleaner and wipe it down then run the machine with dawn and no clothes and re-examine seems once you get that diesel smell in the machine it’s hard to get rid of due to different type and designs of machines you might not be able to get rid of hence my 1st option
@trumpisaconfirmedcuck58402 жыл бұрын
Step 1: paper towels and simple green or purple power and dish soap. Clean the drum(s) with them. Make sure after you've cleaned the drum that you get 99% of the dish soap out because it will kill the washing machine pump otherwise. Step 2: Put a bunch of old clothes you don't care about with simple green (very little) and soda in the wash. Make sure the washing machine is full but not stuffed. The old clothes with "scrub" the drum for you. Trust me I've put gear oil soaked rags (stinks even worse than diesel) in the wash and I thought I would never get it out. If you do it well the old clothes won't even smell. I even clean my oil drain pan for oil changes the same as step 1. And I've gotten gear oil in it and it doesn't stink. Simple green and dish soap. Surprisingly another thing you can do... though it is usually an unnecessary mess is clean it with less stinky oil. Whenever I change the gear oil in my cars, afterwards I change the engine oil and transmission fluid. Oil dissolves with other oils and while motor oil and transmission fluid don't smell great, they smell a ton better than gear oil or diesel fuel.

They make washing machine cleaner pods 🤷🏽♂️ I’m a diesel mechanic and after I wash my uniforms I will either wash the washing machine with 2 bleach pods or 1 affresh washing machine pod.

My man is an auto mechanic, who somehow gets his clothes greasier and dirtier than any other mechanic I’ve ever seen. I usually treat his clothes with degreaser before washing by hand in the bath tub using with dawn, naphtha, borax, arm & hammer, tide, etc and I’ve probably tried everything except for coke. I’ve never heard of using coke before but id be happy to give it a shot! So, he’s been pretty rough to me this week so I told him he could wash his own clothes. He put them straight in the washer added soap and walked off. I pressed cancel and stopped the load. I said to him that he would need to, at the very minimum, please spray them with degreaser before using the washer. He responded by called me names and re-starting his load. I turned off the washer again and told him if he didn’t want to he should take his clothes to the laundromat (or just be a little bit nice to me cause then I’d wash them). He replied by insulting me. I did my best to stay calm and I explained to him all the work I normally do in washing his clothes. I told him that basically the washer is made for washing the clothes of office worker normie types not of sexy greasy hot-rod men who get as dirty as he does on the daily. He told me I’m stupid and I don’t know what I’m talking about etc. He said he might just wait till I fall asleep and then use the washer, which as it turns out is in fact what he did.

Thankfully I didn't get that response , but both my husband and I have been at our wits end because we KNOW not the normal stuff will work to get this sort of crud out. My husband works with grease, silicone mixing agents, etc. I'm like , let me bring out the Ole wash board and I have carpal tunnel so the immense pain in scrubbing there and with a brush were atrocious! I know Coca-Cola is like some wicked wicked thing invented that has multiple purposes, so I'm in this for sure!. It can even take away erosion from things where batteries met their demise!
