Yes, I agree. Much rather here the waves. Soothing. Makes me wish I was there. The smell of the ocean and the sound of the waves. It doesn’t get much better than that!

This clip just reminded me of a session I had just before dark at Balangan on the last day of the 2011 Padang comp. It wasn't as big as this but for sure I got the biggest wave of my life (I'm no big wave fiend but it felt plenty big enough for me!). What a rush and yes, I'd say Balangan breaks better when bigger. Cheers!

Dave Schleifer you go under the water for a few seconds twisting and turning then you resurface grab your board and paddle back out. Hope this helps?

Been there done that ..day after day after day . On one of the heaviest rights in Bali. My point was they edit a lot of what happens pre and post wave . This vid didn't . cool shit.

Waves like this always look easy on the screen. But getting caught inside can be a nonstop, heart-pounding, heavy breathing ass kickathon. Good to know the lineup and bottom, exit routes (if any), etc.
@AlistairBentley5 жыл бұрын
from memory you have to wait and get pushed out down the beach?
@virtue6962 жыл бұрын
So true, I was surfing Ulawatu in July was close to passing out after getting caught inside and relentlessly duckdiving set after set... I run 3km every single day and I dare say if I wasn't as fit that could easily have been the end for me..

Monte R: Not Mega, that is Mango originally from NYC via Hawaii. Always out on the big days, more than a screw or two loose. And besides, he easily weighs about twice as much as Mega which is clearly visible in the video. And Mega does not ride longboards.

@abominablesnowman34946 жыл бұрын
Oh trust me it's intimidating. That's 6-8 foot of raw Indian ocean energy out there. The paddle out is a nightmare and getting in is a life threatening ordeal if you miss time it. Sure it's fun when small but at this size, it's experts only

I love how the internet has given everyone with a couch and a keyboard big wave surf skills. Without a reliable rip you're gonna get power washed just getting to that line up, and if you actually watch the video, the only guy that can make the bigger waves from deep in the wave is Baaaaarely making them. Angling in when the swell is that fast with wind sucking up the face isn't easy. Is it immortal human late drop on the gnarliest wave ever hard? no, but it's not easy either.
@MrBigike766 жыл бұрын
....and you just proved your point!
@14Danceric6 жыл бұрын
Oh c'mon that is not a hard drop whatsoever. The reason nobody is making it is because they're riding too short of a board or they're sitting too far out (granted they might be afraid of clean up sets), but these waves aren't breaking top to bottom on the outside .... only the shore break.
@capefalconkayak6 жыл бұрын
Alright, I'll bite. It's not that the wave is super critical, it's just the speed of the swell and the wind that makes it kinda hard to get out in front of. My point was more that I'd be surprised if 5% of the people who make shitty comments could actually surf the wave they're commenting on. My bad for feeding the trolls.
@14Danceric6 жыл бұрын
