Just as an industry reference. "Inserts" are intended as one time use for selling retail plants. The reusable one-piece type are called either plug trays or propagation trays and some are heavy enough that they are used without flats. Some are heavy enough they don't even use tables they only get edge support from racks made of side rails (Usually this heavy type is also transported into fields and used in automated transplanters.)

I just came across your channel for the first time, & I'm also Indiana! I also have a KZbin channel 😊 I haven't ran across many other KZbinrs/Gardener's from Indiana so I always get excited when I find one!

Great and well done comparison. I also love greenhouse megastore trays. I use these SureRoots Deep Cell Plug Trays CN-PL-S503 as inserts 3 seasons now and still going

New subscribers from KY here! I've been ordering from greenhouse megastore for awhile and very happy with everything so far and better than the Amazon garbage!!! Most importantly, made in USA! Thanks for the videos!

I buy my trays and pots from Grower's Solution and am very happy with the products and the price. I use 3.5" pots to start my seedlings and 18 of them fit perfectly into a 1020 tray.

Hi! New subscriber here. Long time gardener and I've been sick of those flimsy seed starting trays for years. Finally broke down and bought some 6pk and 4pk cells from Epic Gardening channel. Sticker shock was a bit much, but the cells themselves are very impressive. Unfortunately, they don't yet have trays to carry them. I plan on making a video to show off the cells soon. Good luck in your garden!👌🏼

We homestead in central Indiana also. We have for 33 years. I’m so excited that I found your channel. We are getting ready to build our harbor Freight greenhouse. I have been watching lots of videos. Came across yours. Thanks for all the great information.

My girlfriends Dad bought the small harbor freight greenhouse and we built it into a nice concrete slab. It has already weathered 5 years of storms on the Oklahoma border and still working like a champ. Good luck

The bootstrap 1020 trays are good… the inserts start degrading overtime… this is my first year using them but I broke one of the insert trays just by squishing out the seedling. The root pruning ones from epic gardener are truly heavy duty.

I also decided to go big on long lasting seed starting materials for next season. I decided to go with soil blockers and heavy duty trays. I’ve never done soil blocking, so fingers crossed it isn’t all for nothing. But no matter the route, high quality makes garden life easier.

I love soil blocks! I have the mini blocker, The 1-1/2" blocker, the 2" blocker, the 4" blocker and the stand-up 20 blocker. I start seeds other ways, too!

I love soil blocking. I save meat trays to use over and over...but inevitably i kill them But i seem to be doing that to a lot things this.year.

I actually like the thinner Inserts from greenhouse megastore, with the thicker bottom trays, because when it comes to planting them out, I like to be able to squeeze the bottom, to help them separate from the tray...

We bought the bootstrap trays and (72 and 200 cells) inserts after looking at reviews. They are the best trays on the market. You do need to buy a plug popper tray from bootstrap farmer for the 200 cell trays though. They are hard to remove without that popper.

I prefer the light weight insert. They make it easier to get the starts out when you transfer your starts.

That is true! the heavy duty ones I have to scoop out with a spoon and it’s not the easiest process.

Excellent video! Many thanks! A bit of warning, I know it's been a few months since your video came out, Greenhouse prices have soared (or I'm looking at the wrong item) to $7.79ea as opposed to Bootstrap at $5.79.

They’re still both equally great! I even forgot a few outside for several months last year and they’re still in good condition, the sun didn’t affect them at all. Definitely a good long term investment

I ordered the Greenhouse Megastore (Mega Heavy Duty 1020 Trays) along with a case of 450 Square Black Form Pots.... After a year of use would you still recommend Greenhouse Megastore Mega Heavy Duty 1020 Trays or do you find Bootstrap Farmers 1020 Trays to be better?
@TheHomesteadTrail2 жыл бұрын
We just bought these a few months ago, but hopefully someone who’s had them awhile can help you out!

@@TheHomesteadTrail In your honest opinion do you prefer then Greenhouse Megastore Trays or the Bootstrap Farmers. If so what is your rationale?

I think you mean perforated. A knife is serrated. Those little holes that make it easy to take apart are perforations.

Fantastic comparison. I will say though that the Boot Strap Farmer inserts are meant to be reused and the others are single use. I personally really like the Greenhouse Mega Store trays as well. I have a lot of them and they are holding up beautifully.

I recently bought the Greenhouse Megastore Mega Heavy Duty 1020 Trays and had them shipped to S. Korea. I hope they will last a long time. So far they seem durable. Have you tried the Bootstrap Farmer in the past?

If you are looking for sturdy cells, go check out Epic Gardener. I am not kidding when I say you can stand on a 6 pack! Spendy, but lifetime quality. I have a small hoard of them after splitting an order with a friend, and they are in constant rotation. LOVE.
