We used our Wishek disc this fall for the first time in 10 years. The last time we used it was in 2012 when it was so dry. This year was the same. The ground was really hard this fall. We tried our usual ripper but it was pulling some huge chunks. So we disced the corn ground & then we actually ripped it after we finally got some rain.

John Deere makes a seed drill that will plant wheat in standing cornstalks eliminating the need to spend time and money to prepare the field. The farmer by my house does it with great results.
@bigtractorpower11 ай бұрын
This farm likes the Wishek disk’s for three reasons. They break up the ground every other year to reset and smooth the seed bed. The following year they subsoil it to break compaction after wheat and double crop soybeans. They like to bury the stalks to reduce disease and fungus carry over from year to year. The third reason is to reduce vole infestations in the fields that ruin sections of wheat. I film at a farm that runs a 60ft 1890 to no till wheat after corn. It works well but without tillage they find allot of extra wear on the drills disk blades. 60ft 1890 no tilling wheat over corn at kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIKtg4x3jt5_ibMsi=-69keIvv8L90Y7Ga

Great video as always. I was wondering, what is the difference between a field cultivator and a chisel plow? Maybe you could cover this in a future video. Thanks BTP.
@bigtractorpower4 жыл бұрын
That would be a good topic. Short answer a chisel plow has shanks that dig 9 to 12 inches deep. A field cultivator has sweeps that run 2-4 inches. Primary tillage vs secondary tillage.

You should pull harrows attached to the disk instead of running separate tractors to level the ground.
@vthegoose4 жыл бұрын
Then they would need smaller harrows. Personally I don’t see too much issue with running a bigger harrow on a second tractor
@jonathanlandis36504 жыл бұрын
It makes turning on the end rows that much harder too. With just a disk you can turn pretty sharp, with a drag you have to make wider turns.

@nellsonstout70014 жыл бұрын

@deplorablelibertarian4 жыл бұрын
@@nellsonstout7001....the only reason I caught it was that camera angle on the frame of the plough. I saw the disks riding up and down with the undulations of the field, but moving independently of the chassis. Some are probably very basic and cost A LOT LESS money than others.
