I’d love to know what you think “bad” is. There’s about 20 metre or less visibility in some parts.

@@laurenanderson7330 honestly that's nothing. i live in central Scotland Dundee / Perth area and let me tell you through those winter days every night I'm driving thru literally twice as thick fog for about 45 mins until i get home. sometimes it comes with a heavy rain and when low degrees (below 4°) the roads get slippery, too... it's crazy..... sometimes you have to literally lower your speedy to 10-20 mph and still I've never seen anyone with hazard lights on....

@@laurenanderson7330 nah i mean it would make sense during the daylight but we tent to get this foggy mainly during the night so you actually see the other cars from a good distance, well i mean you only see the lights obviously not any cars but that's enough, if that makes sense

IF your car doesn't have a rear fog light, a couple of taps on the brake pedal, a momentary flash of the hazard-warning lights. If impacted, stop - off the carriageway if you can; ignition OFF, hazard lights on*, always. Check, and exit vehicle, stay well away from traffic lanes. * = On new market vehicles under the global vehicle design rules, following an impact, a vehicles hazard-warning lights are activated **automatically**, thus removing the human element. This of course aids in alerting approaching traffic of the danger. If you view some "fog crash scene" videos, you'll see people get out of their cars without activating hazard-warning lights, thus the creation of "ESS - Emergency Signal System". OPTIONALLY for some countries; use a CB radios "road channel", to alert vehicles of on-road danger. This is handy to alert heavy vehicles of a blocked road, in say fog! Carry two high-visibility safety vests for your car. In EU, these are stored in the front door pockets. In some countries, its required to wear one before exiting the car, if you can. Carry a high-quality hazard-warning triangle in your car. Place it to the SIDE of the road, 50-200m (steps) away from the crash or breakdown scene you seek to protect.

@@jeremyh.pritchard5325 thanks, lots of info but it is (in most situations) impossible to get out of the car as it's happening so fast,right? The moment you step out of the car you might find yourself hit by an approaching car. Basically, there's little you cann do. Are there any videos on this topic on YT? I tried to find something useful but there's nothing special

you need to reduce your speed and drive at a speed which allows you to stop safely. That is entirely dependent on visibility. So that could mean driving 10mph. But that is whatever speed it would take for you to hit the brake and stop before you collide with the obstacle/hazard that you have spotted.

Now if you have stopped and are stationery, i guess you can’t do anything at all if a truck or vehicle is approaching you from the rear. Because by the time you can see that vehicle..its too late. And if you can see the vehicle in the distance and feel you can do something to avoid it..then more than likely the driver of said vehicle has the time and distance to avoid you. So its entirely dependent on the driver who is approaching from the rear. But the list above is very helpful.
