Wonderful Work, now a days Herringbone teeth Gears are not used but Double Helical Gears are used, which are easy to manufacture and use a Gear Hobbing Machine but this is speciallized and Specific meant for the purpose machine. Thanks for Good Production of Video.
Respect - although this was a better equiped machine shop - it had an electric hoist.

Does the operator periodically retract the teeth or do they do that on their own to cool themselves

So far as I know, this kind of milling machine (Herringbone gears shaper) was made until the early 80's. They are very sought after now. See "kzbin.info/www/bejne/faO5n5acgN2cac0"

Why didn’t they turn the weld area and true the end of the shaft welded on
