I remember one day when my friend was at the bass and the other one at the drums, and my guitar was broken. I took a berimbau (one stringed brazilian instrument, used in capoeira fights), plugged it into an octaver, a fuzz and used a violin bow to play it. Man, that was some serious shit.

pretty neat idea, I know they make mutes that make it sound like an electronic guitar.

It can do that, but usually those mutes are used as a "silent brass system" you plug headphones into the mute, and you can practice without disturbing anyone. but you can also hook it up to an amplifier.

My dad's actually done things like this. He's an avid trombonist and big into the indy music scene. A guitar pedal works pretty freaking great for trombone. What Paul did here was mic the trombone and run the mic audio through the pedals. There are special mutes that are mics so you can plug headphones in and practice that way. What my dad does is run that audio through guitar pedals. It gets pretty rockin' over here.
