Cirith Ungol are the total package. They truly weave a soundtrack for epic fantasy a sci-fi tales that are all their own. They have psychedelic and hard rock influences, but they are greater than the sum of their parts. Great discussion of this incredible band.

King Of the dead, Forever Black and Dark Parade are my favorites, followed by One foot in hell. Some excellent songs on Frost and Paradise, but too many gaps in my opinion on these two albums. The 2019 live album may be a good entry point for those who want to discover the group. I regret the departure of Jim Baraza, solos on the last album are so good. Thank you to all three for this quality broadcast on Cirith !

From the 3 most famous ''acquired taste'' vocalists in the Metal world, Baker has always been for me the most difficult. Shelton brought into Metal singing what I always expected from it in general ( a truly epic worth of a Prince Valliant adventure), and having heard Tommy Vance's almost apocryphal presentation of MFate on BBC1's FRshow, in April 83, I almost made an immediate connection with the group's musical concept and weird vocal stance. And i liked it. With (/K/) Cirith Ungol, it was easy to feel fascinated by their sound and abstract, but that mighty hawk shriek took me years to fully integrate it into their music. As soon as you manage to do it, though, there's no other singer you could think of that could ever match what Cirith Ungol are/were musically bound to achieve.

So great to see S. Graig return! His breakdown of albums via a song by song analyse is great. My fav guest for sure and I hope he will retirn soon to do more rankings/discographies... like the classic Scorpions era or Carcass or whatever.... I'm hooked!

Cirith Ungol are a METAL band through and through. They draw an odd parallel to early Darkthrone in my mind because of its underground metal pureness. For this plus other reasons these albums are cemented into my collection.

Great deep dive guys. I always appreciate your analysis and opinions. Kudos. Came for the topic, stayed for Craig singing For me Cirith Ungol is an acquired taste. I rarely come back to them. Nevertheless I respect them for what they are and their legacy. In preparation of this I revisited all the albums and this time I agree with Craig in the ranking. I really enjoy Paradise Lost, even though it is a bittersweet experience knowing the history behind it Quote of the day: "Barbarian Demon Hawk"

They are certainly one of those bands where people either instantly like them, or one has to work a bit hard to "get it". I was one of the latter people, but when it clicked, I can't deny the bands uniqueness and creativity. Thanks for watching!

17:18 I'm confused, and I will tell ya why at the end of this comment. The pronunciation of Cirith Ungol is pretty easy to remember if you go with the following list of names. The biggest and maybe most important because it happens to be a band's name: Blue Oyster Cult. The C is pronounced with a K... Camp Cat Claws Calamity Cacophony, which is also a band name Cancer, another band name Criminal Creepy Cramps, another band name Crouch Couch Canada Cream, another band name Cradle, part of another band name Cover, like an album cover Copper, part of a song's name, betcha won't be able to name it Creepshow, great movie Cannon Celtic...Frost I think you get the picture. My thoughts are why do so many people think it's pronounced with an S? Most words that start with the letter C are pronounced with the K sound, correct? Just thought I'd give my reason for always pronouncing it thusly.

Oh, I just realized another word...name: S. Craig Zahler...😅

31:15 Well, crap. I didn't know the band pronounces it wrong. But when Alan claims all C words are pronounced with the soft C, rather S, I think we know that is simply not correct. I feel very comfortable with that conclusion.

Cirith Ungol is a weird band for me. Really didn't like them at first, and now just starting to 'get' them. Hoping that listening to this will help me gain a better understanding of them.
