Sand Dust Coming From Hard Working Locomotives Fighting A Grain Train Up The Long Steep Hill! Steel Coils Train With DPU Working Up The Hill, Friendly Norfolk Southern Crew Gives A Train Horn Salute, CSX Train Gets A Radar Speed Check & Norfolk Southern Train Gets A Radar Speed Check. 7 Trains At Railroad Crossings And Historic House In Kentucky. These trains are in Crescent Springs, Florence And Walton, Kentucky. Did I mention the John Deere tractors?
Perfect weather and awesome trains in Kentucky! I went to several different locations in Northern Kentucky trying to find some hard working trains and some trains with DPUs. I was blessed with some awesome Live Action. Listen to the DPU working hard on the 3rd train. That train is at a railroad crossing in Florence, Kentucky on Totten Lane. I love that spot.
After getting the trains going up the hill out of the Ohio River Valley and getting the heavy train in Florence I went over to Walton. This is where the house sits between CSX and Norfolk Southern tracks. This is the oldest house in Walton and is owned by the city of Walton. Railfans are welcome here and there is a couple of picnic tables for fans to enjoy the views.
Due to popular demand I brought out the radar gizmo again. I used it on a couple of trains. We see how fast the CSX train behind the home is going and then we see how fast a Norfolk Southern train in front of the house is going. Which train is your favourite? What did you think about seeing more John Deere tractors? A few days ago a man was walking down the tracks in Walton and got hit by a train. The train was blowing the horn so I don't know why the man was struck. However, I saw it on the television news and they showed a train passing by with more John Deere tractors. I just thought that was interesting. The train that I filmed with the tractors was Train number 123.
This video also has some scenes from my farm with the Live Action Pets. I took the dogs for a walk through the fields and looked around. The slide show from this video follows the farm scenes. It looks like my farm is going to grow by another 8 acres.
Filmed Thursday, May 2, 2024 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!
Please thumbs up and watch another JawTooth video to help my channel.

Lots of steel coils moving lately. I worked at a sheet metal shop back in the early 1990s that had steel coils in the yard. We manufactured commercial grade stoves, grills, ranges, and ovens for hotel chains cruise ships, military ships, and military installations. They cut the raw steel on coils to sheets, ran the edges of the sheets through a seamer that cut the burs off of the edges, then cut it into specific sizes, shaped it with brake machines, and on and on… It was fascinating watching how the steel went from coils to finished commercial cooking equipment all in one shop. We even had a shop that built the switches and gas and electrical components. Isn’t it crazy how seeing those coils brought back that memory.

The first two trains going up The Hill at Beechwood Road in Crescent City, Kentucky were impressive. The grain train needed the sand to help it get up The Hill. You caught the southbound daily steel coil train going up The Hill. You also caught the northbound empty daily steel coil train at the Totten Lane crossing. I remember that previous video that you had taken at Totten Road when the workers were up on the communication tower, and we heard them talking as they were working on the tower. The CSX and Norfolk Southern trains that you caught at the Abner Gaines were interesting to watch as they passed.

Step by step up the hill we go. Your comment about the shiny wheel just shows how dirty they get and if you remember back to the old days a friction bearing trucks all the oil and dirt that would accumulate on them. Well let's solve the Mysteries. Many of the cars are marked STLX which represents AE Staley and later became part of Tate & Lyle. About 2 years ago they spun off most of their interest and the recipient of this load of Illinois or Indiana corn should be Primient in Loudon TN where it will be converted to either ethanol or corn syrup. It's always nice to watch the coil train on their daily run and today moves right up that hill as if it wasn't there. The third train went by in almost a blur and the fourth train did pretty well. Special note that two cars behind the tractors is a load of Smart Siding sent to you by Jason from the Upper Penninsula. The placement of their DPU was a bit unique in that it had 19 cars. behind it so perhaps it was going to make a set out down the line. Another day Trackside with JT and it's off to another photo location

Hey, thanks for the video! I enjoy your videos, especially your switching videos. Second would be slow movers like that grain train! Any trains are good! Anyway, that grain train was made up of ex-A. E. Staley cars. The mainly STLX reporting marks gave it away. It may be heading towards Loudon, TN. There’s a former A. E. Staley corn syrup plant, there. A. E. Staley was bought out by Tate & Lyle from the UK. Now the primary products part of the business (corn sweeteners, ethanol, etc.) has been rebranded Primient and is owned 50/50 by Tate & Lyle and KPS Capital Partners, whoever they are. I counted 94 cars, so they’re either short 6 cars of their 100 car train; or they’ve got 4 extra cars (empties?) of a 90 car train. They go by contract, now days, to get a certain rate. I’ve seen NS grain trains, in my area, go from 72 to 75 to 80 to 85 to 90 to 100 cars. Some have a few more than 100 to 110. I know BNSF gives premium rates to shuttle loaders that load 110 car trains. These are the loop tracks that load on the move, like some of the coal trains.

Instead of putting all the power at the front of the train a dpu or distributed power unit is placed in the center or at the end of the train. This reduces stress on the lead locomotives and distributes power more evenly throughout the trsin.

Agreed. I have wondered how it works
@christiansturbaum7279
@christiansturbaum7279 27 күн бұрын
The engineer has a remote in the cab where he controls the dpus this reduces slack and helps the brakes apply faster since each locomotive has an air compressor on it

@@BobSmith-mj7ikI wondered why they did that. I imagine it comes in handy going up steep grades.
