kematirar well you usually feel less turbulence when you sit next to the wings and at the front, because it’s more balanced near the wings I guess, but I don’t know why for the front. You’ll also feel more turbulence sitting at the back. I’ve tried all three seats many times and I can assure you that sitting next to the wings lessens the turbulence.

This is why every passenger should congratulate these pilots every time when deplaning, for their skill and ability in taking them safely to their destinations. Once, flying from LGB to JFK on jetBlue, the pilot, I shit you not, I remember told us it would be a few bumps, but otherwise not too bad when descending/landing. He didn't tell us we were flying over, and into, a nor'easter. Holy shit, was it turbulent. I gave him a nasty look when getting off that said "if it were legal to do so, I'd fucking strangle you." That's not the kind of thing you don't forget to tell passengers. On the opposite end, flying TPA-HPN, once, we had lots of turbulence, and the pilot kept us informed - down to the fact that no matter what they did, climb or descend, it was gonna be bumpy. As I got off that flight, I offered some skittles - which he accepted - as I felt generosity 9and sugar) was in order for a pilot that kept us informed.

If you have seen some Boeing and Airbus wing failure testing, you would actually find it to be quite reassuring. The amount that a wing will flex before failure, is eye opening!!! Like 12 to 15 feet of upward AND downward bending. We virtually never see that on commercial flights, very reassuring. Not to make light of the fact that a lot of people DO NOT like turbulence, its how it is, I guess. If turbulence was ' water off a ducks back ' to all of us, flying would be SUPER boring. A lot of airlines do ' fear of flying ' flights, and they go a long way to allaying some of our fears about flight. Great vid, thanks for posting it.

Down south, in the summer months, next to the Gulf of Mexico, there are always bad storms because of the tremendous heat and humidity. They can form in minutes and go from a light wind and a little drizzle to 70 mph winds and torrential rains with hail storms. I was coming into Atlanta from Frankfurt Germany once on a Lufthansa DC-10 and there was a storm so bad they had to close the airport and we had to circle for about 45 minutes. Those were the longest 45 minutes of my life. We dropped once for what felt like 500 feet and then it felt like we hit something. I guess when the wings lost airflow we dropped and when they caught airflow again it produced the feeling that we had hit something. We were pitching nose up and nose down, going side to side, rolling left to right and right to left, the lights went out briefly but the lightning kept it lit inside as the lightning was continuous. The overhead compartments were opening and spilling onto people's heads. Hail started to hit the plane and it was deafening. We could hear the engines spooling up and down as the pilots adjusted for what they needed. Luggage in the lower compartment was bumping against the floor underneath our feet. I had to catch a little carry on bag I had in my lap as it flew over my head several times. People were screaming, praying, crying and some seemed to be in shock. I imagine some let out a little TT in their draws. I have never been so glad to get to the ground in my life. I hope i, nor anyone else, ever have to go through that again.

I noticed that my wonderful JetBlue flights were consistently NOT so wonderful due to turbulence. It was strange. I flew many, many times before that and yet noticed that flights on B6 were bumpy. Living next to Boeing it was easy to find an answer when I finally mentioned it to engineers. The Boeing engineers praised the A320 as a quality, safe airplane to fly in, but they explained that Airbus builds "sturdy" planes with wings that don't move much during turbulence. This means that passengers inside tend to feel the turbulence more. Also, if you fly B6 you will notice that the heads of people rock back and forth during the entire flight. It is just an Airbus thing on the A320. Can't remember if it does that on the 19 or 21. I did NOT notice it when I flew from London to Boston on the A340 but did find my flight bumpier than when I took the 747 on the flight before it. I enjoy my B6 flights now that I tell myself that it just feels bumpier than it actually is. Boeing planes tend to have wings that flex more, especially the new 787. Airbus builds strong planes that flex less. Both are safe.

I've been on 4 A320 flights and all were a bumpy ride. I've had worse turbulence on its little brother the A319 and it actually flew smoother on a stormy descent. A321 generally handles well but a lot of pitching left and right on approach and climb. 757-200 takes the skies some of the best among ones I have flown on along with A319.

@TodosLados4 жыл бұрын

@immanuelj89524 жыл бұрын
May have been a crosswind correction. Most likely a crosswind coming from the right and to keep the wing down they put aileron into the wind. If you add too much aileron the spoilers on that side will also deflect upwards to increase the effect of the ailerons. You can see the spoilers go down as the aircraft gains speed because the faster the speed the smaller the correction required allowing the ailerons to do the work without the help of the spoilers.

SOME turbulence makes me feel the same. 'Some' is the key word for me. While in Peace Corps in mid70s I and another volunteer flew in an old one engine Cesna-like mail plain for over an hour in rain and turbulence with just one pilot. Just three of us. Flew in an old 737 through the monsoons from Phukhet to Bangkok in Thailand mid-80s. Horrifying is all I can say. A few years later I read a piece in the paper of a 747 crashing on takeoff and all killed from same airport. Also during monsoons. Always wondered if it was the same 737. Like I said, even when I took it it looked pretty worn.

Idiot pilot? Oh, I guess you are more familiar with the limitations and performance of the A320, navigating through weather systems, and flight path planning than the professional pilots up front who both have years of training and experience. I'm also sure you were equipped with a better radar and TCAS system, were fully briefed on the WX for winds aloft and the turbulence RPM charts for your flight planned route, and were in full communication with the controlling ATC agency regarding the PIREPS and air traffic situation in the KFLL terminal area. I see the problem. The pilots clearly should have consulted you prior to dispatch. You know what all of this means and are a more qualified A320 PIC rated airline transport pilot. Their bad. If I ever have you on my flight, please be sure to inform the crew so we can ensure the avoidance of any and all rough air.

I can’t handle turbulence. It’s hard to tell from the video but was it really dropping and rising to the point of feeling it in your stomach or was it just more bumpy and rumbling?

So we as pilots have a saying about turbulence “it’s like hitting a huge pothole in a brand new car”. Scary at first but in the end all pilots have been VERY well trained to handle these situations. These pilots also have lots of people looking out for them. Pretty sure that PIREP looks awesome 😂.

Charlie Irvin yeah unfortunately sometimes things like that happen... as pilots we do our best to keep our passengers informed about the possibility for turbulence but we can’t ever tell how bad it is until we either see it on a weather report or feel it ourselves...

I was a road warrior for 2 years and I thought I was a "G". On a flight from Ontario, we hit turbulence similar to this and dealt with a crosswind on take-off. I held hands with a stranger and we cried the whole time. I stopped traveling two weeks later 😅

I was on a turbulent flight last August (AA481, I have video of takeoff/landing). Thing was dropping like a coaster and people screaming mid-flight, but perhaps enjoyable for people who love thrill rides in broad daylight.

It was intense and violent, but almost fun, and I generally hate mega-coasters. Not for the faint of heart; a full 85-ton airplane getting tossed around like a toy. Probably the record for worst turbulence for me.
@ecoRfan8 жыл бұрын
No injuries, just a thrill ride in the sky. Gotta hate when one hits turbulence and people get injured because of it; those get logged in aviation safety record databases too. And we arrived on time so no complaints there.

People should've clapped not an easy flight for those pilots. Turbulence from mid flight to landing, this is why I don't travel by air in winter time the warm air from the south mixing with very cold air. The summer is best, the fall season too and late spring are good.
@TodosLados5 жыл бұрын
Fernando Salas I agree with you!! The turbulence was after 30 minutes of flight!!
@tinag73815 жыл бұрын
This didn't look turbulent until descent into FLL. The shaking of the camera made it look more turbulent. When I film in flight ( which I do to keep occupied and less fearful) I jam the camera ( my cell phone) right up against the window to keep it steady. The viewer can still note the severity of the turbulence by wing movement. Going through clouds like that is always a bumpy ride. Good video despite the shakiness of the camera ☆
@TodosLados5 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the tip and for your time!!!
@bazil83 Жыл бұрын
It's quite clearly very turbulent, and there's no "made it look more turbulent" about the camerawork - if you steady your camera completely you eliminate any bumps and actually make it look smoother than it is. The shaky camera clearly and perfectly illustrates just how bumpy the ride was, as well as the sound of the cabin rattling quite audibly, and the captain apologising the turbulence.

There are time in this vid that it seems like the vid was sped up intentionally which could make the turbulence appear worse than it is, but I am probably wrong. But, look how fast the plane is traveling down the runway and that's not the turbulent portion, so I am dumbfounded. It was scary either way...
