The flash point of gasoline is -50 degrees. That means at that temperature or below gasoline does not give off sufficient fumes to allow ignition. Rember that only the fumes burn, liquids do not. Thats why in Alaska and the arctic they wrap engines with blankets to reduce the effects of the extreme cold so they'll start.

I wonder why snowcats have very wide tracks. Maybe the large surface=traction and not sinking into the snow has something to do with it?
@petercornish990311 ай бұрын
To compact the "piste" ,the track, for skiing. Make nice wide passes and not overly compact the snow so that it becomes hard to set ski edges into, or hard if you should fall on it.

Keep in mind theyre very heavy... and they operate on snow....
@YarMahNarNar11 ай бұрын
It’s all about spreading the weight. Like snowshoes for vehicles
@Lucky32Luke11 ай бұрын
Exactly. Also for grip since they are used to push snow away. My point as a civil engineer was that having so skinny tracks on a vehicle like the bus (heavy as F) or even worse on that so called Snowrail (overpowered as F) their fail could have been predicted. I am very disappointed to watch some guys inevitably very talented in making amazing machines but lacking some simple basics in physics. Alan is the most mind driven from the bunch. He knows physics not only mechanics. Maybe he is indeed a wizard. ;)@@YarMahNarNar
@Lucky32Luke11 ай бұрын
@@petercornish9903 Correct. The more surface area you can use the better to spread the weight and also to have more grip when pushing compacted snow forward. Not too hard to find out why was the Snowrail digging in and sink. Also I won't say the bus had so much success either. Nice shots but under so much weight those tracks are inadequate.
