That aerial shot of the Chinook hovering over the trailer as the guys hook it up really impresses upon you (or at least on me) the incredible technology that is a helicopter. Through human creativity and innovation, we've created the ability to take a 12 ton piece of metal and suspend it in midair, hundreds of feet up, stationary, without any external support, by just moving air around. I love helicopters and I understand how they work, but that image really drives home just how incredible that creation is.

I was an Airframer in the Navy, working on H-46 Sea Knights (HC-5). Every other phase inspection, we completely removed all of the flight controls from the rotor heads. The engineers at Vertol were part insane, and part genius. Also, underway VERTREP with as many as 4 Phrogs in the mix for 6 to 10 hours, is a rush.

Great video, and I remember being in the Army Doing Sling loads under the helicopter in the early 90s... surprised you didn't have to ground the copter or sling line. Those blade generate a lot of static electricity that at night looks like little lightning coming off the blades.

I flew C model and Super C model Chinooks in Vietnam in 1970 and 1971. This was done very differently than the thousands of sorties I flew during that year. Our flight engineer, crew chief and door gunner were just as important as the pilots in picking up a load and setting it down exactly where it was needed by the people on the ground. The Chinook never let me down.

I spent about a month doing traffic management for a helicopter logging crew about 15 years ago. They where using a Chinook. I was amazed at how it worked, what it could lift and how fast it could lift out logs. We had 8 crews of guys felling and rigging etc. Anyway one day we had a 'news pilot. Turns out it was one of the senior check pilots for the company (Columbia helicopters) we borrowed an extra 4 felling crews and he was still bored. The normal pilot would pick the log up by hovering and letting the rigger hook the chocker onto the Whitehook, this guy had the rigger prop the loop of the choker in the air and he could hook it without slowing down and he could drop the logs in the claws of the loader, properly impressive stuff. I got to have a look over the choper and it had a heap of little patches all over it, The (normal) pilot said that the chopper was shot up during the evacuation of Khe Sahn, weather or not thats true who know lol

Being a former 82nd ABN Engineer, I have jumped from a Chinook, sling loaded our Heavy Construction Equipment to the top of Mountains, kicked out rubber rafts from the back ramp and jumped in after them. Living and working around Fort Bragg NC when you here a Chinook you know! Pretty cool recovery and videos for both you guys! Keep up the good wor!.

i’ve seen a ‘Shithook’ slingloading a Floating Ribbon Bridge Bay for Float Bridge Training and it’s impressive to see how easily it maneuvers when carrying a load

It always boggles my mind how those two turbines on the chinook, looking so damn tiny and pathetic, can power that huge beast and also make it a heavy lifter and one of the fastest helicopters ever made also. Pretty impressive.

Think 10,000SHP @ the engine total input..@ about 5,000 RPM.. then up the torque by 28:1 gearing .. (approximately).. Air crushing torque!

I had the opportunity to help the national guard with fixing a break in our creek here in California. 4:30pm the CHINOOK landed and I was able to orchestrate and help the airman shackle up huge bags of dirt they were using to fix the break. Hearing and seeing the CHINOOK come in was epic. Being able to help them was one for the books! Edit: the airman I was helping was the crew that saved 200 ppl during the creek fire that were trapped in the lake. Again it was the coolest opportunity I’ve ever had!

That was a amazing recovery. Glad no one got hurt when the truck exploded. I like Hans' humor. It seems to be coming out more lately. And so is Alan's. Where has Diesel Dave been?? I hope he is ok.

Calling in to rescue your Rescue Helicopter can never be a good thing, but our Northern People re some tough sons o biotche. Im gonna get sick just thinking bout that weather. My kid and grandkids live in Wyoming and its nothing for them to get up and hunt bears and wild turkeys in that frozen Ice Machine up north. Alot tougher than Me.

Every time I watch one of Dave's vlogs i learn something new. His crew is so fortunate. The jobs they do are always different with different challenges, so they are always picking up new skills as they get the job done. Dave's an awesome feller and I'm sure great to work for. They travel to awesome places every few days it seems. All the equipment they get to use for work purposes are amazing machines I'd kill to use for fun. I don't know a single person that wouldnt pay to be on Dave's crew . Imagine all the skills and experience they are getting. PRICELESS! Tanks for another awesome vlog.

Dave, Allan, Hans but a big HIGH 5 to the editing guys. That would have to be the best production you have done yet. Loved it. As on old retired pilot I really enjoyed the mix of all aircraft

Hans definitely gives off abrasive outer shell but if you take the time to get to know him you'd understand he's a good dude vibes. Love the crew after watching for the last year or so and seeing how everyone works together the way they do. Definitely a good crew that comes together to get the job done and knows everyone's strengths and weaknesses. Love this content!
