Just watched the South Park version of this. I still remember the first time I saw Heavy Metal. Back in 2000. I was working at Hollywood Video. High School summer job. Older stoner dude I worked with put this on after hours, when we had to re-stock the videos. I hadn't thought about that in a long time. This video brought that back!

Nerd Time: So the top of the space shuttle opened to reveal the cargo bay not the bottom. They could have just shown the shuttle do a roll then drop the corvette. It’s almost like they were super high making this movie and/or didn’t care that much about the animation.

The space shuttle first flew shortly before this move was released in 1981, which means the animation for this movie was done before the space shuttle's first flight. Since most people never saw the cargo bay doors open until they saw it in space, I think the animators can be forgiven in this instance. They were going off of pictures and drawings of something that hadn't even flown yet.

I might be the only 24 year old here lol. Saw the south park episode as a kid and loved it. Learned few years back it was based on a movie, when i saw the track listing of what performers made songs for the movie i had to watch it instantly, without a doubt every song kicks ass and i wish netflix would do a “Love death robots” esque show with heavy metal. Each episode is a comic like how the movie is just multiple separate comics from heavy metal comics
