Just wanted to add my two cents here. I backed and have received my set. I have noticed the sound profile being a bit bass-heavy at the moment. I am looking forward to when the app comes out so that I can get more into eq'ing my set. overall I like the sound of it, I like that I can crank it up and not have to worry about ear fatigue. the tech around the loudness is very effective and doesn't seem to cause any tinnitus attacks. one other thing I like, it was a small thing that I hadn't seen in other headsets (I'm not much of an audiophile so not sure if it appears in other headsets) but the ability to turn on the microphones to hear around you. the headset blocks outside sound pretty good on its own without hell-blocker but with the environmental passthrough, I can listen to my wife talk to me without needing to take off the headset. such a nice touch.

Thanks! Your input is most definitely worth more than two cents. :-) Yes to bass-heavy, which is the rule when it comes to ANC, and it can be adjusted 3rd party (totally depending on your source device, streaming service, and/or apps). If you're using iOS, much more limited options. For example, if you are streaming Amazon Music, there is a built-in EQ. And yes, the transparency mode can be helpful! Enjoy them, thanks again.

Very good, fair, review! I backed in early 2022, but still haven't received mine yet because I also added a longer 2.5-3.5 cable. This has pushed mine back to August (probably September before I receive them). I'm interested to see how they sound for myself, especially as my music tastes aren't limited to Metal. It will be interesting to see how they sound when switching between them. If it's jarring or sounds fine. I appreciate the length of the video too - Not crammed for the sake of making a 15 minute video, but not overfilling with anecdotal irrelevant filler. 👍

I was unsure about these, but your review really sold me on them. These are exactly what I'm looking for. I've used a number of audiophile headphones over the years (Sennheiser, Audio-Technica, Bose, and Sony), and while the audio quality is crystal clear, none of them ever sounded loud enough for me. I'm definitely willing to sacrifice a bit of audio quality in exchange for headphones that sound more exciting.

I am so grateful for your video. I placed an order for these headphones so I can have something a little more versatile than my focal radiance since they are a wired connection only. After ordering them I figured I'd get a cable with a mic so I could use them for work (work remotely and the headset the company gave me has very bad latency and their struggles to pick up my voice) leading to me buying the v-moda pro boom mic. Thanks to this video I I just snagged me a 3.5mm to 2.5mm adaptor that will arrive on Sunday. You saved me a headache I didn't realize I would end up having lol.

Extremely high quality video. Subsribed immediately. Saw the view/subscriber count only after watching and was surprised it was so low. If you keep it up, I am sure the numbers will be rising in no time! My Heavys arrived just before Christmas. I am quite satisfied with them as well, although i think the announcer voice is a bit too edgy. I really had to tweak the equalizer a bit. I had the biggest quality improvement by removing a hefty chunk of the 250 Hz (about 8 db). After watching your video I understand now that they did this to make the headphones "feel" louder. After my tweaks (+ adjusting the pre amplifying) they definitely feel less loud, but since I hear a lot of epic/orchestral metal, this is quite nice for me.

I got them the other day. I can say, and maybe because I am used to it, but my BOSE Quiet Comfort II's do sound clearer and more "true" to the sound. That said, I am more of an 'audiophile', 9.2 surround with all KEF R Meta gear, so the initial sound profile is very, pardon the pun, HEAVY. When I was A/B-ing them with the Heavys, the BOSE did sound almost 'tinny" at first but cleared up after a minute or so when you listened longer. Again, the HEAVYS are so bass forward that they can seem like the crossover settings on bass is at 10, mids at 2, and treble at -4 (on a fairly standard eq). I have the iPhone 14 Max Pro and did putz with the internal EQ settings. The best I can get them to sound on the iPhone EQ is "Treble Booster". That toned down the bass-forward profile, but I am very much looking forward to the app to see what can be done as well as a firmware update.

I'm in the lower 10k batch so it'll probably take 1-2 batch shipments until I'll get mine. I'm curious if they were a good purchase because I'm not listening to Metal for the bass and in my experience, neutral headphones work best for the kind of Orthodox Black Metal I mostly listen to. I'm a casual user, half deaf so wouldn't call myself an audiophile. These sound great across the spectrum of genres I listen to, especially my deathcore and other metal genres. I work in a powerplant and the anc works well enough to manage the menagerie of loud sounds in the plant without completely losing my surroundings. In quieter or more regular sound environments they will block almost all outside noise. Overall these are great for a premium casual experience, but I think they are aiming for more of a niche target. They are good at what they do and will do what most people want, but I know there are sets that do those things better for more discerning ears. Love my custom Archspire shells as well.

Thank you for the in-depth review! I'm an early KS backer and have been hyped for these a long time. I'm definitely a little nervous about a few things you've said, like the mids and treble, but I'm still holding out hope, especially with the app on the way. I consider myself a (very) beginner audiophile at the moment. Have been using Focal Elegia for 5 years now in a couple of different sound systems between home, work, and travel. I watched the review, but this'll be my first time really having a good comparison with any other kind of upper tier headphones and getting a sense of the kind of descriptions you're giving.
@HawaiiHiFi-0_Audio Жыл бұрын
Thanks for joining the conversation, and thank you for the feedback! The Focal Elegia are excellent, and altogether a different animal. Remember that those are closer to "upper tier" where the HEAVYS are really entry-mid-level. That said, they deliver a lot of capabilities and performance for a surprisingly low price point. After listening, I think these are definitely cost-competitive with well-established brands.

I've got my pair a few months ago.. running it as a everyday unit to see how it performs in all kind of music and... "noise"...I mean audio other than it is design for. Definately need an App to make it even more versatile via user custom EQ for different genre and hearing profile. I do hope the highs and overalls open a bit more after some run in time. I manage to get a 3rd party 2.5mm to 3.5mm stereo (does not work with those with mic) but need a little filing to make it slot in. The cable works with and without the headphone turn on...so if battery run out ... you have a backup. Plugging 2.5mm in disable BT. Of course with power it sounds better but I did plug it into a headphone amp .... sound okay...but haven't much time ... the cable could be better.. I think... I backed the kickstarter in the early days, too. Haven't received mine yet though because I got a case and a couple cables with my order so mine will ship late next month. Glad to hear the positive review though. I'm an audiophile but I like fun headphones and V curves. There are plenty of expensive audiophile focused headphones that aren't flat. I expected headphones like this to be lacking some detail anyway so that's not a dealbreaker for me. I just want something fun to listen to occasionally. Did you test between BT audio and with the aux cable for sound? I would expect a wired audio connection to sound better even if they're not audiophile quality. Also I had no idea shells were already on sale. Might have to pick up a few.

Thanks for the comment! You're right about the fun factor, detail retrieval, etc. They are not necessarily lacking, just different than the usual consumer-level fare. Hey, thanks so much for leaving a comment, and you're welcome! I'm curious about examples of which artists/tracks and which headphones/IEMs/TWS/speakers you are using as a reference. In general, the HEAVYS sound good, they just present sound differently than more "normally" tuned headphones (average consumer fare). What this means is that you will be hearing sounds that you may or may not have heard before, and placed in perceived space differently than you may be used to. You may really enjoy this once you get adapted to the difference! Let us know about the questions above, and what you think after you get yours. Thanks again!

Some interesting things since I got my Heavys H1H's today. The Heavys logo on the shells of my headphones look *completely different from yours* . My logo is *white* , while yours seems to be a *gloss black* that blends into the matte black finish of the shells themselves. *Did you order different shells, or is your headset out of the box?* Or do you think that yours might just be a first production unit? Originally I came back to ask if you had a recommendation for a 2.5mm to 3.5mm cable to use, but I see now that you said the one you have would not fit correctly, Im wondering, did you purchase another cable to test this out, or do you think that would be a wash entirely, and should instead opt to buy the Heavys proprietary cable?
@HawaiiHiFi-0_Audio Жыл бұрын
Good questions, I did not receive any special shells, and mine seem to be consistent with what others got in early production. My guess is that you're right, and they're using a different batch of shells. As far as the cable, I think it's safest to use theirs, although the Type-C connection will be much better regardless for audio.

Regarding Audiophiles: (TLDR at end) I have a few higher end stuff top current ones are audeze lcd2 and fearless s8f. I have tested the top tier currently available products of Sennheiser, hifiman, fostex etc. My friend gave the heavys to me for reviewing and expected me to hate them. I immediately bought a set. Yes the are colored AF, yes they sound like dogshit on low volumes, but as a man that has good stuff at home, i enjoyed the heavys for being particularly different. I expected most audio enthusiasts with a solid collection to pay the rather cheap price of the heavys to blast some metal on the road. To me that makes much more sense then to use some wireless anc headphones from big brands and think of how much better it would sound at home on the good setup. TLDR: Also interesting for audiophiles with a large collection just for it being different.

Hi! Great review video and thanks to you, I am considering to refund Marshall ANC Monitor to the Heavys. But before I do that, do you happen to know how different the sound profile between the Heavys & Marshall is? From what you are saying I feel that it might be louder than the Marshall Monitor. Aside from that the ANC on the Marshall Monitor hasnt been very good as it keeps hissing. I changed it 3 times and the problem still persists. And you are right that the muffs do get very warm overtime causing my ears to sweat.

You're welcome, and thanks so much!! I can only compare the previous Skullcandy Crusher ANC top-of-the-line; I have not heard the V2 yet. I really appreciated how much better those were than every other product they had re: sound quality. The ANC was irritating and constantly hissed. The new ones may have addressed that. The haptic bass is a very different experience than dynamic driver bass. The Crushers are fun, though can become physically irritating and neurologically exhausting. I have not had that issue with the HEAVYS yet. Keep your eyes out for the upcoming headphones from Sonic Lamb. Those will be a revelation, specifically in bass tuning and delivery.

Sorry for the long delay. I've not yet taken them on a flight and will report back as soon as I do. From my testing, I think they'll be decent, not groundbreaking. The big standout is the passive noise isolation, where the ANC/HB is secondary support. They are nowhere near the level of Bose or Sony, and a bit behind Edifier, which are all much smaller and lighter Some people will prioritize those factors for travel. Hope that's helpful!

Got my headphones on Monday, was very excited and then was disappointed to find there's a fault. I only listen wired so, using the aux cable they provided, plugged into my CD players and it works fine at low volume, but as soon as I turn the volume up high and there's some bass/power, the sound goes away entirely and all I hear is a soft crackling noise. Not sure if it's just my pair or if these headphones can't handle power/loudness. To make matters worse, I can't find another 2.5 to 3.5 cable to test it with as the headphone design prevents most of these cables from being plugged in due to the socket being positioned so deep into the headphones. Tried two cables with no success. So now I'm waiting to hear what they're going to do about it. So disappointed.

@HawaiiHiFi-0_Audio Жыл бұрын
What headphones have you been using for reference? Essentially, if your primary focus is on vocals in front of a lot of music (meaning, not lots of space for silence), there are better options. The same applies if you like treble and detail and shy away from bass. Being designed and tuned for heavy metal comes with some compromise, though as all around performers, they are competitive.

How they compare soundwise with the momentums and the newest Sony? I use 6xx and Focal Elex at my house, but being open they aren't really for the street and my old Momentums (II, wired) don't work great with newer phones...
@HawaiiHiFi-0_Audio Жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking. The HEAVYS are more dynamic/lively than both the Momentum 4 and Sony XM5 (candidly, I'm not a fan of either one, especially regarding the bland copycat design). Between the Momentum 4 and XM5, the M4 sound much better and cleaner AFTER sound personalization adjustments (if you can get them dialed in right). The HEAVYS present the sound really differently in terms of soundstage/imaging, they sound "larger" and definitely punchier. Bottom line, the HEAVYS, while not perfect without EQ, are a better deal than the M4 and XM5, and will look, feel, and sound unique. The 6XX and Elex - there is really no reasonable comparison to the ANC tribe, they are built and tuned entirely differently and are both awesome for what they are designed for. Hope this is helpful!

@HawaiiHiFi-0_Audio11 ай бұрын
Sorry for the delay! Here is a link to our site's written review: t.ly/CB9Ki Disclaimer (a few notes from me and direct input from Axel Grell): the graph is misleading and not necessarily a true-to-life representation of the sound, particularly due to HRTF (this is a whole other arena). Axel and HEAVYS did not share/publish an "official" graph because of significant variances in how people will experience the sound and community arguments about measurements (equipment, protocol, graphing translation, and interpretation). If you are competent/familiar with reading graphs, this FR graph leads to the impression that the H1H are much darker than they actually sound IRL (the graph indicates super heavy bass and repressed treble). Take the measurement with lots of grains of salt, in this case!
@Pleusch11 ай бұрын
@@HawaiiHiFi-0_Audio How would you EQ the H1H to cleanup the low-end and lower mids and make it suitable for Dream Theater for example.
@HawaiiHiFi-0_Audio11 ай бұрын
Again, apologies for the delay. What kind of EQ do you use? If you have a 10-band PEQ of sorts, I would simply start with a shelf of approximately -2 dB at/under 200 Hz. If that's not enough, increase to -4 dB and go from there. That alone should change the profile significantly to bring some of the midrange forward, perfect for Dream Theater! Let me know what you discover! I anticipate the HEAVYS app to be released relatively soon, with EQ adjustments of some sort (how extensive, no idea yet).

Hello! You have some good headphones there. I have the Game Zero and DT990 Pro here (I'm not as familiar with the 770). I would tell you that the detail on the HEAVYS compared to the 770s will likely be quite lacking/far behind. That said, all three models were designed for entirely different purposes. For closed-back ANC Bluetooth headphones (and using them out and about), you may be very happy with the power and staging and not as focused on the lack of sharp detailing.

Hey! Overall quite good, as those bands have a lot of energy across the frequency spectrum. In addition, some of Helloween's early recordings and vocals were quite sharp and occasionally sibilant. The HEAVYS will tone some of that harshness down, especially at higher volumes.

@@HawaiiHiFi-0_Audio yes i hope to test them :) So for work i have Monster iSport Achieve, in ear BT, wich have good sound but not so good fitting for me 😅 Over Ear's i have the HyperX Cloud 2 Wireless, wich i use the most on my pc. Those are the best imo and even audiophile approved :) and for casual listening i have Crusher ANC, the limited edition in gray/brown. The sound is decent and the haptic bass is fun but i have to tone it down for my music taste. But im glad that the build quality is good on the Heavys. But tbh if HyperX would bring a BT version from the Cloud 2, i would buy those. If you didnt, i would love to see a review from you about these. Thanks, you have some decent sets there! I have not done an official review on the HyperX Cloud 2 Wireless. They are comfortable and light, and generally sound quite good, especially with the low latency wireless or wired. Compared to the Crushers, they are more balanced and cleaner. The HEAVYS will feel completely different on your head. They are much heavier and larger than both headphones that you have. The sound is more dynamic and open sounding than the HyperX, and much cleaner than the Skullcandy headphones. Also, there is a lot more space around the ears in the HEAVYS ear cups. Last, the HEAVYS have BT and a wired DAC mode via USB-C which can make a significant difference. Let us know if you get to hear them/try them!

I received my Heavys a few days ago and proceeded to test them. I am dissapointed. I compared them to the earbuds I use (Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro 2) and it was not good for the Heavys. Though the construction quality is top notch and I love the physical buttons (rather than touch controls), the sound quality was not what I expected. Being bass heavy is one thing, but these sound like there is a wet blanket in front of the drivers. All the mids and highs are muffled and sound like they're coming from a low-end pair of headphones. The Heavys are loud, but the Galaxy Buds Pro 2 are 95% as loud and sound far better. I tested both on my Samsung Galaxy Flip 5 and a Mackboo Pro (M2). Suprisingly, both headphones sounded far better when connected to the Macbook Pro, but the Heavys were still inferior. One thing to note, I used the same EQ settings for both headphones in order to create a baseline sound. The bottom line is that I was very dissapointed. I get the point made in the video that the highs were rolled off to prevent fatigue, but I think they should have left that to the users to do if they choose. Doing this from the factory is a big mistake. I will return them tomorrow.
@ecollazo6710 ай бұрын
i have to amend my review above. I almost returned the Heavys several times but decided to give it one last go at making them work for me. I'm glad I did. After scouring many Reddit posts and other sources I found out that it is necessary to EQ your sound specifically for these headphone. I normally don't do much to shape the sound for a pair of headphones other than using the common "Rock" EQ setting. With the Heavys, it's necessary to shape the sound at the upper bands of EQ while leaving the lower frequencies flat. I was able to dial in a great sound on my laptops and tablets using Apple Music's EQ feature. For my phone (Galaxy S23+) I downloaded the Waves app which gives a great deal of control over EQ across all apps and achieved a sound I like. I'm glad I didn't return the Heavys as they are now my favorite headphones.

I was quite disappointed by the sound, especially the quality of blast beats and just double bass in general. They have lost a lot of fidelity and sound more like a fuzz instead of individual hits. Grindcore and a lot of Blackened Death ends up sounding far too warm, the high sounds of a lot of the drums and even guitars are too middling, with a lot of detail being completely lost. I’ve also bought cheaper headphones which came in far nicer boxes and often with a little bag to store them in, my Heavy’s came in a cheap looking black box with no extras. For the price I would recommend something else, but I am going to use them a bit more and see if I change my mind. I’ve found EQ’ing for Jazz sound on my phone helps restore some of the higher end treble and mid range but I’m still probably going to rely on my old headphones which really capture the original sound of the track better.

Thanks for asking! The Crusher ANC that I had were beautiful, though the ANC hissed so much I found it unbearable. While smaller and lighter, I also found the Crusher to be hotter and less roomy around the ears. Last, sound quality was fairly good and the bass adjustment was a blast for a very short while. It uses a type of haptics that are quickly fatiguing. The HEAVYS have none of these traits. Larger, yes, and also more comfortable for longer periods with better passive and active noise cancellation. Bass is already too intense, no need for any more. If you're seeking super basshead headphones, get the new Sonic Lambs. There is nothing close. Review on those coming shortly! Let me know if you have more specific questions.

Im very surprised to hear its symphonic and progressive music that they struggle the most with. I figured if metal oriented headphones had issues with a genere itd either be with doom (because its one of the only bass heavy genres) or black metal (most nonaudiophile headphones drown out the trebble with over emphasized bass).
@HawaiiHiFi-0_Audio Жыл бұрын
I agree with what you wrote, which would normally be the case. The HEAVYS bass response is enough for any genre, and surprisingly well-controlled and defined. The challenge (without EQ) is that the midrange (specifically, a narrow band where female vocals are most present), is slightly pulled back and recessed in the presentation. It's not a struggle, just a tuning decision and preference. This can be addressed through outside EQ (HEAVYS app is not ready yet). Does that make sense? Have you heard them yet?

@HawaiiHiFi-0_Audio Mahalo 😊 The ear pads are the stock ones, and I would describe the sound as pretty clear and lively but flat at the same time. Unagitated, maybe? Since I'm no native English speaker it's pretty hard for me to describe and express myself in such things. All in all I'm missing a little bit of punch in the lower frequencies because I'm listening to Deathcore most of the time (Thy Art Is Murder, Whitechapel, Carnifex, Chelsea Grin, Traitors and so on).

Your English skills seem strong! First, replace those trash ear pads with Dekoni or Brainwavs or Wicked Cushions and they will radically improve the headphones. I'm guessing that the HEAVYS will sound much bigger, less neutral, higher energy, and with more bass impact.
