For spanish people its easier if we think how we build the phrases in Spanish. Because I noticed sometimes it's similar than Dutch (idk if this is always like this). For example: The phrase" I am right "in Spanish we don't say "Soy razón (Je ben gelijk)", we say "Tengo razón (Je heb gelijk)" like in Dutch. Bedankt voor je videos. Thank you so much for this video ! I am a French speaker and I noticed that sometimes we use "have" in similar situations ;) Like in Dutch you say "Ik heb honger" and in French we say "J'ai faim" = I "have" hunger. Might be useful for fellow French speakers out there 😄

In dutch you use zitten, staan, and liggen where we would also use "to be" (zijn). De sleutels liggen op de tafel. The keys are on the table. De sleutels zitten in de tas. The keys are in the purse. Het boek staat op de kas. The book is on the shelf. And also maybe hangen might be considered to be similar to zijn. The problem here is that the English could be either to hang on or to be on.

Happy to hear that! Well, you use "hebben" when something is "yours". It can be something concrete, oor more abstract as we saw with "ik heb zin in" or "ik heb het druk". And "zijn" is more about an identity, or a place where you are, or a mood/characteristic.

Kim, would you say your pronunciation of ij is something closer to [ɑi] than [ɛi]? Personally, I don't hear the open quality of the latter "standard" transcription of ij. I know it is lowered in Polder Dutch (I can't be certain you are or aren't from a Polder Dutch-speaking area). I have seen .NL websites try to relate ij to the sounds in the words "say" and "take", but those sound more like [ei] than [ɛi], I stress over ij 😂!!
