Italy here. Thanks for making the video Floridaman and I wish we could have had a little more to chew on in our first game together. The reason Germany was so bent on getting the English home centers was because AIR offered Germany survival if he took Lvp away from France. Germany’s only condition was that France be eliminated. So Germany took France’s stab that allowed England back into Edi pretty hard. The fight at the end within the AIR wasn’t the mess it appeared to be from the outside. Russia tried to take the board top for himself rather than the balanced draw the three of us had agreed to. AI decided to push Russia back a little so that it was an AI shared board top. All of the AI moves were agreed, even the ones where Italy displaced Austria.

Great stuff, Italy! Thanks for providing more clarity on this thing. I think Germany's decision-making doesn't really make much more sense with your explanation, if I'm honest, but the later game makes much more sense with this comment.

I can imagine why Germany might have decided to initially join France against England. But the fact Germany was willing to let Russia and Austria grab the German home centres really makes no sense to me.

I was the Germany player here. As for 1901, I had already seen some solid commitment from France to an FG and once I saw him in EC and the English missorder it was an easy decision to go with that play. As for the choices later, I thought it was pretty obvious that France had destroyed my game and his by needlessly moving to North Sea. This led me to desire that the AIR win instead. I'm sure you can understand that perspective given your own comments about not accepting my support to Norway when in fact that was your best chance at survival (assuming France didn't decide to move to NTH. This combined with Italy's comment is the reason I did what I did. It wasn't about offense you gave, as much as it was about trying to preserve my own survival. Not sure why it is so hard to grasp the decision making. Especially given the impossible task actually holding my home centers from a Russo-Austrian invasion would have been.
