The Hebrew language is one of the most famous Semitic languages that is still in use today. It is among the languages of the second generation that branched off from Canaanite, and remained isolated for a long time from other influences, before it completely disappeared after the Babylonian captivity during the sixth century AD. So how did the Jews, led by Ezra the priest, manage to Who revived that language again? How did it remain in use for centuries? What is the relationship of the modern Hebrew language to that ancient classical language found in the books of the Torah? What is the reason for its development in the modern era? What is its relationship to the Aramaic language as well as the Arabic language, and what are the effects of each of them on Hebrew?
We answer all these questions and more in today’s episode of the History of Languages series.
