This video is interesting about radicalization in Europe but forget Italy in which there is no significant radicalization. Probably the reason for the lack of radicalization in Italy depends on the fact that Italy is a peripheral country and that attacks in Italy would not have global impact

It helps that Italy, despite its despicable colonial past and legacy, hasn't invaded any Muslim lands throughout its recent history. Did you twig that? Eh? Interesting correlation don't you think?!

@stephenconnolly1830 Жыл бұрын
The way Wistrich essentialises and anthropomorphises Islam and Muslims is problematic; as well as his supreme blindness to imperialism, particularly colonial Zionism perpetuating suffering on the Palestinians. And he can't even pronounce the word "Muslim" properly!

@stephenconnolly1830 a total absence of the role of 'the West' in promoting 'islamic fundamentalists' over more fundamentally democratic and secular movements in the majority moslem countries, not least in Afghanistan. We have seen that Islam, nevertheless, is able to accommodate democratic ideals better than mass Christian fundamentalist movements in the USA. Jews still have less to fear from Islam than Christianity. It was ever thus.

I am sure although I am NOT an expert nor have I ever worked in the international relations field so from a fairly decently informed layman I would say we are PROBABLY doing those things AND exchanging information. I was addressing my comments I think although I haven't reviewed what Prof Lewis said but an actual troop invasion boot on the ground policy is just plain NUTS! We already BOTCHED two wars!

But there is also an avante-guard, composed of people like Anjem Choudhary: people who stand in front of Westminster Cathedral and harass anyone trying to get in, who very aggressively demand mass conversions to Islam and openly proclaim the fall of Europe. With massive support of Muslim leaders from Qaddafi to Erdogan. This is far beyond "separate rights for separate peoples." (cont.)

Bernard Lewis is right on about Iran. Unlike Arabs, who to this day don't have a notion of nation, Persians are a true nation. And the current regime is trying to turn them unto generic Muslims, people with no national identity. The people resent it very much. How many believe in modernization and westernization in Egypt? 2%? 3%? No, they are not numerous. (cont.)

May God save us all from Arab democracy. Robert Wistrich says at the very end, that all the problems of modern Arab societies are not being dealt with. But they are not just not being dealt with, they are impossible to deal with. No "good ruler" or "good movement" can change a thing about this onslaught of evil, or they will share the fate of Sadat. And the evil comes from the "Arab street," i.e. from the overwhelming majority of Arab people themselves. (cont.)

This is a manifestly stupid as well as ignorant comment - it's akin to saying Moses shouldn't have bothered standing up to Pharaoh because nothing could change the fate of the Israelites due to their resignation to remain downtrodden under the absolute, entrenched tyranny of the Egyptian system under his rule. Worse still, this type of essentialism applied to a whole people - the Arabs - amounts to a form of racism.

I think that to BE a liberal, to BE concerned with the Separation clause of the US constitution, to be in favor of free speech, press, etc., to be in favor of ALL the civil liberties accorded by our Founders in their brilliant document, I can EASILY be in support of Israel by the evidence of MY OWN EYES. My eyes do NOT lie.

Dhimmi is not an ottoman empire term..it is islamic. The Quran, hadiths and Sharia all refer to dhimmi. Funny how secular historians never seem to actually read easily the most central book of the topic of which they speak! Bernard was a great secular academic and fails to get around to reading the quran... Our universities have failed and we know why! If he had read the quran..he would understand that once Sharia rules in a land, that land is perpetually Islamic...as such edicts that pertain to islamic lands apply to non-muslims.. haram acts of blasphamey and apostasy carry the death penalty!
@Kurtlane13 жыл бұрын
And then, there is blatant Jew-hatred. This is one point where modern Wahhabi Islam has come under major influence of Nazism and is now more like Nazism than like traditional Islam. European Jews are now emigrating to America, Israel, Australia, and it increasingly looks like a flight for their lives. So while it might be apartheid for European Christians, it's something far worse for European Jews. I don't understand why Bernard Lewis is ignoring all this. (cont.)
@stephenconnolly1830 Жыл бұрын
Another asinine comment; what's the relationship between Wahhabism and Jews leaving Europe for America? Aren't you over egging your omelette a bit? Surely the significant rise of the right wing and neo-Nazi movements in Europe has had a far greater impact on anti-Jew hatred than the modest number of Wahhabis residing throughout the continent. Furthermore, you have chosen to focus your ire on the wrong faction within the Muslim community - the Wahhabi movement is distinguished by its apolitical stance which is a product of the autocratic regimes' control over their scholars thereby inducing a quietist approach in them which emphasises ritual practices.

@natalierosen You want to talk serious, I would encourage you greatly to look up "the 12th imam/Iran" and learn about it. If Iran secures the ability to build a nuclear weapon, there will not be an "if" they use it, there will be a "when" and when that happens, u will see many more lives at stake than there will be if we go to war. You are incorrect about Reagan as he ended the cold war through SDI - Russians used nuclear power to negotiate whereas Iran will use it to bring forth the 12th Imam
@natalierosen14 жыл бұрын
I HOPE you are wrong. I disagree about Reagan, however. We will have to agree to disagree. I hope you are wrong about Iran. This country does not have the capital, the troops nor the inclination which is oh so tired of perpetual war, to go to war with Iran. If you thought Iraq and Afghanistan are tough add Iran to the mix. It cannot be done without a draft. Time will tell, I just HOPE you are not correct. You may be but I do not know.

The Soviet Union was finished in and of itself so I argue with those that said Reagan was the Pied Piper. No I don't think so. Things are not simple and LIVES are at stake. It is serious to send young men to war!

Let's remember the 700 000 Jews expelled from Muslim countries in 48. No UNRWA for them, just the UNHCR. They accepted reality and got on with life. More Palestinians have been killed in the Syrian civil war (5 years) than in all the Israel v Arab wars. Bit like BLM. If a black kills a black it doesn't register. If a white kills a black it's a national disgrace
