If in the study area only 1 or 2 rain gauge stations then hec HMS is good for flood frequency analysis of river basin
@MdArifurRahmahn3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Dinesh for the query. The more number of observed stations, the better. However, if there is only one or two observed stations then you can either use reanalysis data or if you have to use Obs data then use Thiessen polygon interpolation method to generate the basin averaged precipitation.

It is very easy to understand sir.

I have only one observed precipitation station and I would like to analysis flood risk analysis my catchment has 4 sub basins and downloaded three other stations for CHRIPS satellite data is that possible to work and give me good result for calibration.
@MdArifurRahmahn3 жыл бұрын
If you don't have enough information of precip, you can interpolate that one gauge data using Thiessen polygons interpolation methond and use it for other basins as well. But don't forget to calculate the other parameter accurately, such as time of concentration, and CN.

Hi sir.for impact of cliamte change on surface water availability what data do we need.i am going to do my research on it.i there video relating to this topics?
@MdArifurRahmahn2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I don’t have videos on all possible topics but I demonstrate all these in my trainings. Regarding climate change on surface water you need to have calibration model first then for future climate change condition you need to either estimate those model inputs or collect data from sources where future conditions are projected.

Hi, for calibration and validation can we use observed data from a station that is in the middle of the watershed or upstream? because I don't have observed data at the outlet.
@MdArifurRahmahn3 жыл бұрын
For calibrating watersheds, you need have the observation at the outlet of any sub-basin, then you can estimate the total discharge from the watershed. It's better to have the observation at the outlet of the watershed.

Sir, I am new to this model. i want to prepare mitigation plan for river flooding. So, which tasks can i perform though this HEC-HMS.
@MdArifurRahmahn3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Abhishek for the query. A single HEC-HMS model cannot serve the purpose because it is a hydrologic model. For flood related mapping, you need hydrodynamic model, such as HEC-RAS 2D, Delft3D, SCHISM, or ADCIRC, etc.

For study impact analysis of climate change and land use land cover changes on flood in a river basin what type of data we required for Hec hms
@MdArifurRahmahn3 жыл бұрын
For that case you need to run the model for long time, such as for 20 years or more and the loss method must be SMA (Soil Moisture Accounting) along with ET module activated. For simulating such a model, you need to have temperature, rainfall, short- and long-wave radiation, relative humidity, etc.

How about the covered impermeable areas within the watershed?
@pitamberwagle70864 жыл бұрын
The percentage of area impermeable within watershed is specified in "Impervious percentage" in loss method.
@rohi75973 жыл бұрын
NOAA documents are available. You can check that
@MdArifurRahmahn3 жыл бұрын
For the covered areas, the percentage of imperiousness will 100 and therefore, there will be no loss due to seepage or deep percolation, rather all rainfall will be flowing as runoff.

@MdArifurRahmahn3 жыл бұрын
Consider that as impervious and all rainfall will be assumed as runoff except ET because there will be only loss from ET.
