Though Arachne hasn’t learned her lesson of not being so boastful, I understand why she’s so headstrong about maintaining her confidence on being the greatest weaver ever born. I mean, if it weren’t true then a Goddess would feel no need to challenge a mere mortal and curse her in such a poetically ironic way if Athena’s aim was to solely keep said mortal in check. Much like mortals, Gods can be an arrogant and prideful lot just look to Poesidon or Zeus for an example, but they would much rather not admit this is the case.

As other competitions go, I believe Apollo has been challenged to a music contest many times, and the gods usually stomp the challengers, followed by the consequence of losing lool. Similarly, I’m sure Athena came over to humble Arachne but that backfired greatly. Very much like mortals!! And honestly why I enjoy the Greek myths. Asides from the entertainment, it’s a commentary on how the gods are not so different from us. They’re exactly how I’d imagine mortals would act if they had power and I think it’s a delightful analysis about us people. Especially how the myths have been passed down orally under the craziest telephone game.

I think it's interesting how most of the Hades 2 characters are people who got in one way or the other screwed over by the gods or others. I mean there's Odysseus who's journey home took a decade just because of Poseidon. Arachne, who got turned into a spider by Athena Medea who ended up with Jason and we all know how THAT went Both Hecuba and Gale who where mortal women turned into animals Heracles, who got his life ruined by Hera Prometheus, who got punished just for caring Pandora, who was created just to screw over humanity and was then discarded Scylla whom in some myths is a sea monster thanks to a curse It's an interesting parallel from the first game as I made a similar discovery that most of the characters from the first game where death myths. Achilles himself is not only famous for how he died but his death was also part of a whole prophecy. Patroclus's most famous part in the Illiad was dying which sent Achilles to a rage. Asterius, Dusa and Lerny are all monsters whom where slain Sisyphus tried to cheat death Theseus whom caused alot of death alongside how f-ing humiliating his own death was Then there's the entire Orpheus and Eurydice myth alongside Orpheus's connection to Orphism which is entirely based on death and rebirth alongside the practice's connection with Zagreus

Truue! And I don’t think it’s a coincidence ^ The characters chosen in Hades 2 have been very deliberate in commentating the gods screwing mortals. Arachne and Nemesis set this attitude greatly and that was prior to the early access. More characters only deepen this thematic. You know, the Hades-verse hasn’t disclosed that it was Circe that cursed Scylla, so I don’t know if they plan to retcon this or save the reveal for later, but I take your point ^ Okay the reminder of Theseus got me lmao.

@Hamstir4 by the way, one thing I have been wanted to ask but have you ever used Echo's keepsake while talking to Hera? Or had Circe's while fighting Scylla?

@@antonissa8345 Circe’s piggy I can confirm I brought it down many times, and when nothing happened, I was wondering if SG is retconning the Circe and Scylla dynamic. Fingers crossed the dialogues haven’t been added yet to save for more evidence against the gods. Echo’s keepsake was one of the first I maxed, so I don’t think I used it again by the time I met Hera. Worth trying!

Athena would probably be a worse leader than Zeus. He's cruel, but stupid and impulsive, so he doesn't see a lot of stuff due to not paying attention. Athena would be more likely to detect any "threat" and move to deal with it. If there's anyone on Olympus who would love a panopticon, it's her. Arachne has every reason to be proud, not just because of her skills, but because she made a god shiver, even if for only a second.

Good point! Athena’s rule would absolutely be a panopticon. Very much like Bubblegum from Adventure Time (spoilers) and China in irl. She could monitor everyone and enforce any behaviors necessary to “maintain peace”. Another thing I’d like to add about a panopticon is how frighteningly effective it is as a “warden”. It functions as a warden because people are under the impression of being supervised 24/7. It may actually reduce the crime rate ^ but even innocents feel the stress under a society with this extreme level of surveillance. One more point is a panopticon implemented in a prison system. By establishing that the prison is being watched 24/7 from the watchtower, the actual person supervising could actually leave the facility, and the effects of the panopticon remain the same. This is because the prisoners are still under the impression that they are still being watched from the watchtower. This is what’s scary. Panopticons are efficient and don’t necessarily require the presence of a physical person to “maintain order”. Now imagine that attitude under daily society. TLDR: Panopticons are not an ideal society. Athena doesn’t know that cursing Arachne only made us support her more. Ik Arachne was punished for “disrespecting” Athena, but my other takeaway is how artists irl often get censored or punished for the statements they make. Artists are powerful. Even when our Time is over, it’s the surviving literature and art pieces that remain. If Arachne did weave a depiction of the gods violating mortals, it’s only critique and evidence of the current system they are living under ^ again, artists are powerful! Daeity- I didn’t piece the Athena / Hera dynamic like this! Interesting!

I know that furthering the Arachne storyline is the primary reason to go into the underworld for now, but maybe replenishing your lotus stores is a good secondary one :P Arachne lets Melinoë into her home _for now_. I don't trust Melinoë not to screw things up lol.

LOL, it sounds to me Mystery you want to see the Underworld more. There’s two birds with one stone to that, so bet! Oof* If there’s an even lower point for Arachne, I’m going to feel so bad. I was expecting this to be her lowest. Turn it around Melinoe, I believe she can!! She can a) At least say she won’t give up for her and will continue to investigate the curse independently, or b) tell Arachne she’ll get Athena to change her mind (first step to affirming her stance on mortals). These are the two good outcomes that could help Arachne's current state of mind.

4:08 hacate leaving with her tail between her legs. 4:40 things will get worse before they get better it seems. 6:39 i don't know, Hecate's dialog earlier sounded like an apology to me. As for why she agreed to the curse, my guess is she didn't think much of it at the time, though it's possible Athena gave her something in return. 7:06 fair 8:11 Mel will have to take things into her own hands and risk whatever consequences come after and I'm so here for it. (Let's hope Prommy is right about the whole "agent of change" thing) 12:30 this makes her sound more paranoid than competent if you ask me. 13:12 soooooo true, Narcissus. As an aroace person, i feel that greatly. 17:01 Scylla you are so unserious. 35:54 the ending narrations are always so funny. Overall I'm pretty excited to see where the Arachne story line goes. The way things are looking, we might have to do things under Athena's nose and hope she doesn't find out.

I love how unsatisfying the encounter was, and Hecate accepts the reprimand, then goes. Mwuah~ I could see it ^ On Hecate’s part, she doesn’t have to exactly say “I am sorry”, but I did think it was fishy she never was going to tell Arachne. But maybe I should read between the lines and surmise the guilt building up led her to confess, encouraged by Melinoe ofc. About conspiring with Athena, I predict that Athena planned to enact worse punishments, on a more broader scale. But this was avoided when Hecate agreed to curse Arachne, keeping the punishment at an individual level. Truuue! This is where we start becoming proud of Melinoe (if not already, more proud than ever). The current update has put Mel in a rough spotlight. Since the early duo boons and meeting Promy, Melinoe has had to process the gods being rather destructive to mortal lives, while also taught that the gods have the right to rule the way things have been. “To restore the order”. How she’s been raised isn’t quite aligning with what she’s seeing. Most of Melinoe’s reaction we would have to read as subtext, because of the nature of one-way boons. This time, it’s Promy that will fix her. Double true! Regarding Athena, I feel her fear of Arachne is her projecting a fear that doesn’t even exist. Real life analogies I think of are minorities gaining power as simple as equal rights. And somehow, that’s been all the rage throughout history. If hypothetically the mortals do become as talented as the gods, so what? The world won’t flip upside down, and yet Athena acts as if she’ll receive a stroke when mortals start living in the same world as the gods. Aww, Spade! We appreciate you here :) I adore Scylla haha. I imagine she also doesn’t fight seriously. She’s prioritizing the show more so than the fight itself. That ending narration is one of my favorites lool. To Homer’s horror, “Oh gods Melinoe. Watch out!” I’m curious! Melinoe has been the “by the book” type of person. And it’s gotten her ahead compared to her peers! But now she’s faced with questioning everything she’s learned if she wants to prioritize her mortal friends.

Let's get this show on the road. It's payback time! 03:25. I have never seen it before. You use Boons of Hestia 00:08, Hera 01:55, and Demeter 05:05 to destroy evil bosses 23:48 & 32:48. Okay, I thought you used Boons of Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, Poseidon, and Zeus.

Nemesis, I like to call her Ultio in Roman because Nemesis means "distribution of what is due, righteous anger" in Greek. I know Ultio is the Roman equivalent to Poena (Goddess of Retribution, Vengeance, Recompense, Punishment, and Penalty for the crime of murder and manslaughter). But if the name Ultio means "Vengeance and Retribution" in Roman and Nemesis was the Goddess of Vengeance, Retribution, Punishment, and Justice in Greek mythology. That means "Ultio" is also considered the closest Roman equivalent to the Greek goddess "Nemesis," as both represent the concept of vengeance and divine retribution; essentially, "Ultio" is the Roman personification of vengeance, similar to how Nemesis is in Greek mythology. As a result, Ultio is the Roman equivalent to Nemesis as both of these deities represent the concept of vengeance and divine retribution. Therefore, Rivalitas is the Roman equivalent to Zelus and Invidia is the Roman equivalent to Phthonus as four of these deities represent the concept of envy or jealousy.

@@Hamstir4 I love ❤️ Nemesis. I hope her best friend Aidos can turn me into a humble boy and Nemesis into a humble goddess, similar to Vidar. Yes, in Norse mythology, Vidar is often considered a "humble god," primarily due to his title as the "Silent God" and his reserved nature, where he patiently waits to fulfill his important duty of avenging Odin's death by slaying Fenrir the wolf, without seeking unnecessary glory or attention.
