Lovely to see the hedgehog back on the mend & released. My two feeding stations & trio of homes get well used. I set up the dry stores last week ready for the winter so they can do there own room service. One set up sleeping in one of those rather than the the dedicated ‘hotel’ next to it.

On the other hand, it's quite stressful finding an ill wild hedgehog in your garden, getting advice on what to do for the best for him - taking him to a hedgehog rescue centre that then doesn't take him urgently to a vet (which I could have done) only to discover he died through the night at the rescue centre. At least I've now found out which local-ish vet is hedgehog-friendly.

Here in New Zealand, hedgehogs are an invasive species, and considered a major pest. One of the hazards of having lots of flightless native birds. It's so nice to see hedgies in their proper environment, and being treasured and loved.

Interesting and heartwarming story of saving the life of a single animal. We like stories like this, but the resources that went into helping a single hedgehog were significant. The same equivalent resources (manpower & money), could have gone toward helping all wildlife in the area. That's not what humans want to do, or think about. We ignore the bigger problems of habitat loss of the animals, due mostly to human development. With regard to the environment, we humans think only of how we can make a profit, and out convenience of living. Wildlife is/are very far down the list of priorities of the average human, if they make the list at all. Thus videos like this, in which some people use a lot of resources to save a single animal life, appease the consciences of some people have any conscience at all about how we humans treat the natural world.
