Hedgehog TRAPPED under car seat! How do we get him out?!

Hedgehogs are one of our most loved mammals here in the UK, but they can often find themselves in some extraordinary situations. We recently had to deal with a very unusual incident in our own carpark when a hedgehog became wedged under a car seat!
He was being transferred to the centre from a local vet practice for a check-up, but had managed to worm his way out of the box and wedge himself under the passenger seat!
Luckily, Simon was on hand to help him back out again!

I love the idea that Simon sat down with the hedgehog and had an intervention regarding cars and suitable sleeping spots. "Do you see any slugs in here? No, and that's why you shouldn't stay here!" 😂

We can see why! Luckily, hedgehogs have very stretchy skin with fewer nerve endings, so all was ok :)

Here in Germany are now in november many of underwight, little hedgehoks. They are born late in this year. Many of persons try to work, that the little animals will survive the winter.

If we dont get a hard winter they will survive... But its mostly the lack of food and water that is the problem :) Hugs from one from "your" neigbour country Denmark :D

Sadly that is the same here in the UK. The second litter of hedgehogs is unlikely to survive if not helped :(

@@wildlifeaid The shelter said, there was only one litter this year. ..and that late. It was so dry here in " Niedersachsen". Of course there are many bools with water and catfood in my garden...but it' s only my garden. The others........It was not enough. So sad. I informed the people, but there is a indifference.

We had the same problem with baby deer here on Vancouver Island this year, many spotted babies as far into September/October and that is very late for here

@@MystiqueHorizon Oh my god. It's absolut sad. But maby babydeers have better acceptans from person to help, than hedgehogs. They are sweater than hedhehogs. Iwill hope, these natural desasters stop agsin. For our children and their childs. With love , Uta

I loved Simon's reply when asked how he freed the hog ("I talked to him."). If he got under the seat going forward, he should fit returning coming also forward. Give him some worms.

I found a heghog yesterday up my gutter I couldn't get him out so I cut off the bottom of the gutter then cut him out he was fine and healthy but I weighed him and he was 800g! No wonder he got stuck

I am trying to entice the hedgehogs to review the real estate (hedgehog house) tonight. Today, I have added straw and hay with hedgehog dry food. The two feeding stations remain well used. Need to keep an eye out for a smaller one I saw a few weeks ago before it gets much colder. Hope it has put weight on now. Hedgehog Street is a good resource. People can sign up as a Hedgehog Champion.

A rubber spatula or wooden spoon works great to push his backside along forward as an extension of your hand. No spines lol I did just that a few days ago with a cat in the same predicament. When they felt slight pressure on the backside they just walked right out.
