Very neat work indeed. May I ask you, do the laid stems break with new growth before the pleached cuts do. Or does the break out happen everywhere along the stems and cuts at the same time. Thanks for posting your work. I can see why the National Trust employed you.

Hi Paul, Thanks for your comments,the stems break out pretty much the same as the heel ( the section that is cut off) . Laying the hedge shocks the plants into growing from the rootstock again and once this growth is above the binding and the growth still small it should be trimmed

Paul Matthews Thanks Paul for replying so promptly. It would be a great idea to revisit the scene of your craft and take a video showing all the new growth that your hard work pushed Mother Nature into putting on. I've rarely seen such a neat and tight hedge laying job. Well done Paul.
