When he took over the reigns at Dior Homme he defined the rock n roll androgynous style for an entire generation. He has a lot of haters because his models tend to look strung out and emaciated but I applaud him for sticking to his aesthetic. No matter who he designs for, you can see his DNA in everything he does.

Most important was from Yves himself who ironically sat front row in hedis first dior show only to come full circle for hedi to design both mens and womens at ysl. Also ironic that both hedi and john galliano never attended each others show for dior.

Hedi Slimane appropriates the street aesthetics of punks, metalheads, goths and indie kids. He takes homemade & vintage outfits, elevates the quality of material, and relabels it as high fashion. He’s a genuine culture vulture. I’d like to see him make more original work, which I know he is capable of. Else his legacy risks becoming one that is a derivative of the alt cultures he glorifies, instead of his own unique vision.

well....having come of age in the 70s...i have to say i totally understand and appreciate his work....he is really an amazing STYLIST....maybe the best one in the business next to RALPH LAUREN......not a designer...he has EXCELLENT TASTE...also his AESTHETIC...is CLASSIC...the rock and roll and punk and slightly goth look embraces a LOT OF CLIENTS...lol... ...A LOT...so he will always have a career...i have always admired his PHOTOGRAPHY...and from this video i enjoy it even more...he is an excellent PHOTOJOURNALIST....of the cultures he appreciates.....that are the children of rock punk goth.....whatever he does usually has excellent CONSTRUCTION.....and SCALE....so i always appreciate that...his outrageous demands of control are really unnecessary and childish....just really indicative of who and what he REALLY is...behind the politeness....art and entertainment are processed through advertising and marketing... he KNOWS that ..so his ambivalence .... with the press is...just completely ridiculous....he has excellent taste in interiors and i really enjoyed that...all in all i learned a lot ....about a man with a lot of STYLE....not a truly original talent ...but a lot of STYLE...

The way the documentary ended on a low note was kind of weird. There is so much more to say about a who rebirth a few houses. The thing about the critics and journalists was purely him. I might have gone the same way. Most articles are written before they talk to the person they are about. That is all a game. You call him a Rockstar and then your made when he acts like one? You say he is uncompromising in his style and ideas but then you are surprised when he doesn't compromise? I could never wear his clothes (thicker than thiner), but I appreciate a designer who moves the masculine aesthetic needle to a new more open place. I dig his groove. ✌🏾👑

Im sure what you can do is not far as interesting as what hedi can do and does and in my opinion the california/70s vibe hedi is going for from saint laurent 14 or 15 what was it where he really hopped on the 70s vibe ??idk anyways I think its great what hes doing at Celine I think its gonna be a new and very good era for Celine.
@RubenMartinez-ei2qp4 жыл бұрын
YungFag101 is he just not recycling what he’s been doing for a while now. Is there not a new era he can tap into. Maybe branch out into other genres of music. Celine looks like a direct copy of what he did as slp simply because it’s his most recognizable work and it seemed to work. Now he has more threats than ever with amiri or maybe even fear of god
@iojgoro4 жыл бұрын
@@RubenMartinez-ei2qp could you really say it's exclusively 70's inspired? Something like SS16 is pretty much more like late 80's or early 90's if I understand. I would say he mostly just makes tight fitting clothing but with new theme every year. Cowboys in tight jeans, punks in tight jeans, glam rockers in tight jeans. He doesn't innovate too much, but his clothes are still very nicely designed, and from time to time he really comes up with interesting stuff. Like, his ss20 jeans are so fresh with this interesting mashup of flares with his usual tight sillhouette, which also looks really pleasing with the kind of slim shoes elongated shoes he puts out. I personally believe that sometimes you just gotta make things that already work. In the case of Slimane, it makes his clothes very approachable for people who are just starting being interested in fashion, and it's a great kind of dynamic in general.

old gay fashion business guys give young gay guys (who aren't even trained in design) high profile design jobs. the youngsters are pampered figureheads who believe their own press and grow more and more drugged and deluded. meanwhile a team of real designers and marketing people do all the work in the background. and so the fashion industry continues. growing more and more misogynistic and having less to do with craft or beauty as time goes by.
@Fashionindustrybroadcast2 жыл бұрын
That could be the way things work. But there are exceptions. Gianni Versace, McQueen. Galliano, Yohji, Muiccia Prada, maybe even Ralph, Kawakubo, or Tom Ford. But as Mr Ford says, he and Ralph are merchandisers. The others are artists. A big difference according to Mr Tom.
