I think it's mainly due to the change of their time slot. Back then, their time slot is pretty late, a time slot where only adults are awake to watch the television so they can do and say whatever they want without too much complications. Now they are slotted in a prime time where children and teenagers can still watch their show so they had to tone it down.

I think it’s all misunderstood. He was a very energetic MC and wanted the best of the best clips and would record for 8+ hours just to get that quality that made him #1 for a while. I would say ofc there would some trauma for the idols from that because of constantly thinking of a way to be entertaining, but saying severe humiliation is a lie(except soogeun lol). This training is what led to 1st/2nd gen being the best entertainers due to Hodong’s training.
