This is the biggest problem with promos right now, especially when it concerns the judgment day. Nothing is really said, they're all just continuing to exist in the same space as each other. Rhea Ripley cuts terrible promos that go nowhere. Liv just ends up saying the same thing over and over again. Dom's booing gimmick has gotten really boring and makes every promo segment he's in pointless. And then when Finn is about to make an actual point, they end the promo way too early.

I think one of the main problems with heels today is wwe just doesn’t have any good baby faces with great stories to tell with great heels. Example 2008-2009 Jeff hardy was one of if not the most over baby face of the company at the time. But what makes his stories great we’re the heels he was up against. Jeff hardy vs edge the story of 2 guys who started off as tag wrestlers but 1 went on to become the ultimate opportunist while the other kept failing his opportunities. Jeff hardy vs Matt hardy a story of a jealous older brother costing and hurting his younger brother. Jeff hardy vs cm punk the straight edge guy who doesn’t do drugs constantly making Jeff look bad for being the junkie who failed multiple drugs tests. We need more stories like those.

I think what makes the heels likable is that their heel turns are justified. Drew, Roman, and eventually when Kevin Owens and Randy Orton. No one’s ever just turning heel just for the sake of being bad guys. 2010 Orton was a menace simply for the sake of being a menace. He didn’t have no reason to be a bad guy, he just wanted to be a bad guy. But on the other hand they make babyfaces pamper to the audience way too much. Cody wouldn’t be as bad of a baby face if every single time he comes to the ring he pampers to the crowd and thanks them for having his back and so on. No one wants to hear how thankful you are every time. Also they keep making the babyface an underdog. Like Sami Zayn main evented wrestlemania and beat the longeat reigning IC champion and even when he was Champion HE WAS STILL ACTING LIKE AN UNDERDOG. U cant be an underdog after looking at your accomplishments

Pro wrestling is a form of live entertainment that everyone knows is scripted and rehearsed. People that attend wrestling shows want to be entertained rather than just simply be "empowered". If a heel is getting cheered, that doesn't mean that they're doing a poor job. It means that the audience is entertained and they want to see more. As long as the audience is engaged, I don't see a problem. The age of kayfabe has been dead for a long time.

@@anonymous_5016 so who are we supposed to get behind if the bad guy is getting cheered and the good guy isn’t? Technicos (faces) are supposed to be heroes, but how can anyone stand out if everyone is trying to be a rudo (heels)? That’s why I said what I said. Wrestling fans these days just let anyone talk to them any kind of way and cheer lol.
@anonymous_5016Ай бұрын
@AdrianM865 The best way a company can solve that is by making their top faces equally entertaining. Unless it's a beloved veteran like Bryan Danielson or Randy Orton, being a generic wholesome fighting champion won't take you very far anymore. I'm not saying they should be antiheroes. They should at least have a personality or gimmick that allows them to stand out and contribute to a well-thought-out storyline. Keeping faces as they are while downgrading heels so they would be on King Corbin's level would do massive damage to the ratings. Viewers today are far less tolerant of content that tries to make you legitimately hate certain aspects of it.

I mean, there's a million heels in history that worked well and did everything you said was bad. Maybe you think those things suck or are bad but they're effective and even The Rock has gotten cheap heat, hell even in his Final Boss run earlier this year he did it. You just need to have charisma. MJF has it, Solo doesn't. I get where you're coming from with the Solo working people thing but it's really a childish argument because you've basically made it impossible for anyone to have a real discussion with you about it. If I say he's just not an interesting character then I'm getting worked, if I say he's boring you'll just say it's on purpose. You've created a circumstance where it's literally impossible for you to be wrong no matter what anyone says. But the reality is there's been many heels in history that got a ton of heat, but people didn't find boring. I mean monster heels are great examples of this. I'm glad you like Solo but he's basically just "Samoan wrestler no.1" MJF can talk, he can work, he's got a great look. Guy's just a born heel. I agree that the you people thing is way over done though.

Heels being cool is nothing new. It goes back to the Horsemen, but they were kinda half and half because they actually got heat by doing evil stuff. There was Razor Ramon, HBK and Diesel in the early 90s when they were supposed to be heels. But it really kicked off with the NWO, Austin and the Rock in the mid to late 90s. Traditional heels were heels because they were underhanded weasels and cheaters. That's what made fans despise them. Even to the point of assaulting them. And they would cheat so much that it made you angry, begin sympathizing with the babyface and what him to go off on the heel. The problems were the fans and the lack of rules. The fans started to continuously cheer the heels and boo the faces, so they started to blur the lines. And the promotions stopped having their referees enforce the rules. With little to no rules to break, the heels cheating meant nothing.

With Roman there's also the fact that he still has cancer it's just in remission. That guy will never be hated. In general with heels, in wwe you aren't allowed to get heat which triggers hate.

I agree with mostly everything you said...in the late 90s is when the heels started to become cool with NWO, Stone Cold and The Rock. The Rock did insult Philly and if not mistaken Arkansas.

Roddy Piper and Triple H are two of the Greatest Heels of All Time and they'd probably be considered cool as well in this Era. I think the lines between Kayfabe and Reality have been crossed so much and Social Media has just become so prevalent that it's really impossible for most Heels not to be cool without being a terrible person (Logan Paul) or a terrible wrestler (Tanga Loa)

MJF denying the Civil War happened and pulling his promos from 4chan... wouldn't say he's very cool these days. 2018-2022? sure!

I agree with everything except the physique thing. That we should be cheering for the people who look better and dislike the people who just physically look worse thats just kind of a shitty thing to do. A problem we already have in society about people naturally liking or disliking people just for the way they look, its just kinda fucked up, and i like when entertainment media doesnt perpetuate that grim aspect of society

My guy the Rock did exactly the opposite what you said he came out he obliterated the crowds yes he murdered cody on the mic but he did the same shit to the crowd called people redneck idiots And other stuff MJF may nit be your cup of tea but he's actually great When it comes to heels it's cheap heat it's typical it's old but it works and when heels are in great physique makes you want to hate them more cause some other faces like Otis are relatable

I enjoyed that you talked about Solo actually being an effective heel. It's so tiring hearing the IWC complain about him when he's literally doing the job he's supposed to be doing: making the most hardcore of fans hate him. I do think it's ok for heels to have interesting movesets. In the least, a badass finish helps make their victories feel even more deflating, and then the Babyface kickouts more powerful. I also think heels having Greek god physiques can still work as long as the guy is a dick, because then you're mad that this POS has everything. But overall, I agree and think more heels need to actually try to be heels and not worry about being "cool."

I agree with everything's except the parts about how their bodies look. The way they look is the last thing on my mind if they're out doing villainous things.

I think the problem is its a combination of the smarks, some of the wrestlers doing the heel work coupled in with modern times that has caused heels to not be the same way they used to. Fans now cheer for the effort and coolness, even though back in the territory days, some of them would be reviled or attacked by drunks with bladed weapons. If you also decide to pull off a reviled heel move, odds are you would be cancelled by the outrage mob, like with what happened to Juice Robinson when he did the quarters segment.

I think Austin and the NWO really ruined the classic heel/face dynamic because from that point onwards, it became cool to boo the face and cheer the heel. Faces were seen as dorks and geeks while heels were cool and badass.

Dominik is a great heel. Nothing likeable about him. Fun to see him get beat up and not afraid to look like a fool

I think Austin Theory is a great modern-classic heel, knows how to sell, move set isn't flashy, not trash on the mic but still enough to make you mad

i would even say in the modern era.... heels been to cool since the 90s with NWO and The Rock. Before this, some heels were cool but they were kept to a minimal like Macho King and Razor Ramon but 1996 afterwards, the cool heel is the top heel. Which is the reason why some people dont like Gunther, theyre not used to seeing a non cool about his business heel anymore.

That's completely not true. Many people wanted Thanos to win. Next, i actually want Solo to be the WWE champion.

This is the funniest thing to me, because when I was younger all we *wanted* was cooler heels. I swear not a single face had a chance of getting over between 2006-2016 unless your name rhymed with Hey it’s Syrio.

I said this in another comment, the attitude error worked because it was a reflection of that time, the 90s were very much all about counterculture, those sorts of things, and that's why the attitude are worked, the modern day wrestling broadcast is still a reflection of the time, people don't want that kind of bland hill work anymore, people don't want to see out of shape, wrestlers, portrait, as heels, people don't want people that don't have charisma portrait as heels, the reason that that stuff worked in the past is because wrestling companies were still trying to push the idea that wrestling was real, so people while they knew that it wasn't, they still went along with certain things. I'm genuinely glad that people have to actually think, they have to make their own decisions, there is a reason why pain from Naruto or light from death note are such compelling characters, because you have to ask yourself do their motives make sense, do I understand the things that they're saying, it's not Bad guy, bad, and that's essentially what you want, you want people to go back to bad guy, bad, and you want wrestling to go back to the 1980s. There's a certain group of wrestling fan that wants to disrespect those that have what they call a Internet opinion, I am someone who grew up watching during the attitude era, I was a fan of WCW, and I still hold these opinions, because, people began to actually make you think, and by the way you might want to take a look at the rocks heal work Back in 98 and 99, AAA and Michael's. He work in 97, what you're talking about has been a concept and wrestling for almost 30 years. Again, wrestling is a reflection of the social climate that we are in, people don't like the Internet community because the Internet community has a very strong voice in this regard, and the companies are actually listening, the casual fan doesn't like it I guess, but as someone who hates casuals in most things, I could care less about them anyway, because they are not going to be the core viewership at the end of the day, and obviously ratings are showing something very different, ratings are showing that people do like how wrestling is being portrayed. Now, there is a reason that the attitude era and the era of the New World order came into being, a more realistic presentation came into being, because the cartoon shit in the 80s was no longer working, this is why Rocky Maya via became the rock.
