Wow, you see some celebrities starting clothing lines, makeup brands but Emma has used her fame in such a selfless way. She is an inspiration to many young girls and boys who look up to her because of her part in Harry Potter and will take all of this on board. Well, Emma needn't worry. We'll get there sooner than later. If you'd asked people in 2006 how soon the U.S. would have a black president, they'd have said, about fifty years, but it was two years. When the climate is right, things can change very fast. And Emma has done a great deal to change the climate on gender equality, in a very short time.

Every time Emma starts speaking my head just involuntarily starts nodding. For so many years I felt that feminism was something I could not participate in that I wasn't allowed to have a voice. That putting my voice and thoughts on the matter in to the debate would be akin to another form of masculine assertion. That by somehow participating I would be telling women what feminism should be. It is only in the last few years that I have come to realise that my own social anxiety is a product of not fitting into the masculine mold, that I was also a victim of gender inequality. That feminism is about dispelling these expectations from all people based on their biology and allowing us to do as we feel is right for us. To forge our identity in a society that treats us as people not binaries. Growing up in regional Australia, I came from a place where expectations of people based on their genders was absurd bordering on caricature. That because I was emotive, sensitive and interested in art meant I was homosexual and as such open to ridicule. It is so sad that this perpetuation of stereotype has forced men to box themselves up and ridicule anyone who does what they do not allow themselves to do. It is almost as if there is a subconscious assertion motivating this stereotype perpetuation and it is: "If I have to fit the mold society has put on me, then so do you". The wonderful thing is, we don't. None of us do. Not at all. I love the message of this campaign and Emma is a wonderful spokes person. When feminism is a thing of the past and she is the spokes person for the 'UN Equality Agency', I think the campaign should be called MeForYou.

Emma and the work that the HeForShe campaign is doing is truly admirable. I don't understand how anyone could be against it. That only means that you don't want gender equality. Why would you NOT want men and women to be equal? I don't get it. And why do people question about why Emma is so passionate about this? So because she's rich and a famous actress that means that she can't fight for women's rights and gender equality? Women are discriminated EVERYWHERE and in all kinds of places and environments. Just because we have more rights here than in third world countries doesn't mean that everything is fine. We still have such a long way to go. Honestly, I find it odd how people are always complaining about these celebrities not using their “power” and the platform that they have to raise awareness of these issues and speak up about it, but when they actually DO speak up they think they have no right to talk because they are rich and privileged. What do you want them to do??? Here we have this young, successful woman who could just be focusing on her career and her life but instead she is using her voice and her power as a “celebrity” to make a real difference in the world by standing up for what she KNOWS is right. I can't even put into words how much I respect and admire her.

I love that she has notes, that she is starting out, making her way in the world and trying to make it a meaningful way. She could have just taken celebrity and enjoyed it but E.W is using her role to give confidence and courage to young women, and inspiration and hope to women in general. You can see her nerves, see how hard she is struggling to articulate herself and that makes it even more special - that she isn't polished yet, and this is coming from genuine concern, not glib knowledge.

Emma's take on gender inequality is very much from a Western perspective, and understandably so. But fixing gender inequality isn't just teaching kids in our Western society to treat each other nicely, its also about fixing the global view, especially in areas where religion plays a massive part in this gender division. We need to tackle gender inequality at the fundamental, spiritual level.

Heforshe is inviting and encouraging males to step up And support equality for both males and females to stand up for others and for them selves. The purpose here is to raise awareness to the fact that equality isn't just a fight for women but rather a unified effort to make sure every human is treated equally as a human in every way one could be potentially discriminated against.

First of all, I instantly don't trust this vid just because of the ratings being disabled. This leaves me to believe that even comments will be censored if the video owner does not like what it says. I don't really like how Emma acknowledges that feminism is synonymous with "man hating" but just shrugs it off saying "that's just wrong" instead of going into why it is seen that way and how to change that. I also do not agree with that definition of feminist,(if you believe in equal rights between genders) See that is a huge problem we are having. If that was the definition of a feminist, then YES I would be a feminist, but that is not how feminism is used at all by most feminists. It's all focusing entirely on womens issues, and even issues that are cross gender, you again just focus on the women, that is not equality. That is focusing only on the issues of half the species. That is why it is hard to connect with feminism in anyway, because it's so focused on only women and shrugs off any conversation about men unless it is "men need to change to be more like women." It's hard to dislike Emma in this though, she honestly sounds legit and perhaps it's a cultural thing, but what she is talking about sounds different than what I'm use to hearing, It actually sounds like she heard another perspective before. at least it sounds like she is doing something in some places where it might be needed, unlike what I have been seeing recently in America where a feminist activist comes included with her own patreon account and victim complex.

One of the things I noticed watching this video was the fact the interviewer said "I'm a massive softie" I think referring to him caring about women's equality. And I think that's sort of the root towards the whole issue and that men believe it's almost seen as a weakness to care about these things and to stand up for it. I think those ideas are the things that we need to change and show boys at a young age that to stand up for these things is not a weakness and rather a strength.

The discussion about the issues men face has been going on for a long time. It is called the Men's right movement. A voice for men and the canadian association for equality are rather large organisations. Try speaking to them if you want to get to men's issues. They are more than willing to have conversation, but the do expect to be taken seriously, as they should. There are some men that can better if they feel that they can express their feminine traits, but not all men want to be forced to do that. This is from someone who can't find themselves is the feminist movement and is offended by the heforshe movement as it stands. And there are many with me, as should show from the number of dislikes that probably pushed this channel to hide the statistics. We really want this discussion, but you aren't giving us our voice. Don't silence us by saying we are just haters or sexist. We are equalitarian non-feminists and want to talk about actual equality.
@Ms100001239 жыл бұрын
Nonya Beeswax I'm not really in the mood for a broad dicussion her,e as this post was mainly to adress the HeForShe movement and what EW said, but I'll put up some points you could look into if you are interested: Male genital mutilation, aka circumcision. While female genital mutilation has become a controversial thing to do, male genital mutilation is still a societal norm in many cultures. Only a few doctors speak of advantages, though the consensus deems the risks and consequences to great for it to be done. It also contradicts the Hippocratic oath. Custody rights. Fathers still have to fight to even get shared custody, as female custody is the standard. Rape definition. The legal definition of rape used in many countries is still a very sexist one, due to it requiring penetration. It does not include for example being forced to penetrate. Alimony laws, where the working partner needs to pay the stay at home partner indefinitely to support their way of living. A law that in recent years has begun affecting women. It is a law that should have gone away quite some time ago. Stay at home partners should be able to work to sustain themselves in about 5 years after termination of marriage. Innocent until proven guilty. This right is being infringed upon, especially regarding rape. It can be seen in the rolling stone debacle, where the alleged perpetrators where punished by society before they could even defend themselves. False rape accusations. It kind of links to the earlier point. It is a problem that isn't discus enough. Victims of this crime often suffer consequences due to the accusation, even if proven false. Even if not attacked by the media, they can be rejected for jobs on that being on their record, despite being innocent. These are some of the main points. Some others problems that need attention, though it aren't legal problems: Male suicide, depression and lack of proper support, due to lack of safe spaces. Dropout rates for boys at all levels of education. Schools being an unfit environment for boys, due to not being able to express themselves in a way that benefits a lot of boys.
@obi59469 жыл бұрын
Okay, yes. These are the points I have seen at MGTOW. I understand their plight, but I also feel so much pain from them. And yes, before I started any soul searching on humanities, I argued circumcision with my religious family. Apparently speaking my mind is anti-god or something. Anyhow, I feel like things should be done for everyone, but I'm not sure where the best place to start is. Honestly, I'm far more concerned about our (collective our, of course) children than men and women at this point.
@Ms100001239 жыл бұрын
Nonya Beeswax I feel equal rights are more important than social norms and that a large part of the conversation is skipped when it is just about men not being able to express themselves, which I find they are perfectly capable of in the spaces I've seen set up by the before mentioned organisations. Of course children are the most important. The impressions they get shape the future. That is why I think both boys and girls need to be accepted as they are, rather than having one norm to which all should be measured as it seems have been up to this point, favoring boys in the past and girls in the present.
@obi59469 жыл бұрын
Ms10000123 I would have to agree with you on all of your points. I will continue researching for answers, but I've had enough for one day, lol. By the way, are you MGTOW? Just curious. And I just hope kids come out of this okay. It's bad enough going through life being told who to be, but when everyone is telling you something different, it can be really hard. That and to point out one of your concerns growing up without a father or a parent practically telling the poor thing that his/her father wasn't good is like telling the child that half of him/her is evil. It's not okay. Anyway, I'm done rambling. thank you for your time.

So please to see this, and so happy that the heforshe movement is a conversation happening that has been long overdue and with a great figure head like Emma leading it. However, I was disappointed with the conversation about Chivalry. I feel that it is an example of everyday sexism. Everyday I am reminded that I am a woman and should be treated differently, men apologize for swearing in front of a “lady”, “ladies first” through the door. I am equally an advocate for politeness however I think the sexism of chivalry was dodged and it could have been an opportunity for an acknowledgement or at least a conversation relating to why on earth “ladies” must go through the door first. As chivalry happens daily in the work place I have often felt that it is a covert reinforcement of gender inequality in a professional world where I think skill and competency, not gender, should be the focus.
@obi59469 жыл бұрын
So you have an issue with someone opening the door for you? Here's what you should do. Open the door for them. Get to the door first, and open it for every single guy who wants to walk through that door. And when they apologize for swearing in front of you, say, "Don't worry about it, I've said much, much worse when I get angry." It will throw them off so quickly, they'll come to see a different side of you. I swear my favorite thing to do to these guys are to start swearing like a sailor. It's really funny how off-guard they get, then they start having a normal conversation with you. Part of it has to do with them fearing offending you, that's all. At the end of the day, just remember that guys who do this typically mean nothing by it. It has nothing to do with inequality or them viewing you as inferior. Here's the thing - they're trying to be respectful and courteous to you. Don't try to spin it off in such a negative. What is your job, if you don't mind me asking? Because from my experience, guys understand progress better than words, if you understand me. If you show yourself to be an excellent ___ whatever you do, they will come to respect you, if respect isn't already present. And I'm sorry if guys find ladies interesting and / or are trying not to offend us. I encouraged a guy to do his dirty joke once, but he insisted on trying not to offend me. I even made a dirty one myself, but he wouldn't budge. Oh well, such is life.

Women in film don't feel like they need permission to tell their stories. Executives and producers wont fund films made by women because of the system in which they have lived; male executives don't understand why films about women would be successful. But we've seen it happen! The Hunger Games is a story about a girl, Orange is the New Black is all about women of many races and backgrounds, and when there are female characters in male-dominated films (the Avengers for example) women latch onto them and love them. It has to do with men being in power and not understanding what they're doing.

Do you know how stupid that sounds, I'm supposed to accept a "women's" movement - are you out of your mind.

L.O.L....Yes...... you male chauvinistic pig....You have accept Miss feminist Emma Watson kind and generous "To throw you under the bus...."....invitation....now please good sir....bow down and submit to miss feminist Emma Watson...

Yeah, we should all be privileged like Watson, as if that'd be possible. What I see is just a false facade, if she would've said feminism should have never existed, I'd agree, but this nonsense it bs.

Tongue in cheek ....Come now....Of course you should support Miss feminist Emma Watson ...HeforShe feminist movement.. Surly you must be looking forward to be thrown under the bus once the feminists have no further use for you... Remember this ...You are a just man ...In other words .....Just another disposable commodity for feminists

Vik Capella "...that they'd support the death of mankind....."... Speaking of which....have a read this famous feminist quote below... Tongue in cheek....It will make you support Miss feminist Emma Watson even more.. This famous American feminist really shows her true colors on the 'core definition' of feminist equality “The proportion of men must be reduced to and maintained at approximately 10% of the human race.” - Sally Miller Gearhart Sally Miller Gearhart (born April 15, 1931) is an American teacher, feminist, science fiction writer, and political activist.[1] In 1973 she became the first open lesbian to obtain a tenure-track faculty position when she was hired by San Francisco State University, where she helped establish one of the first women and gender study programs in the country.[2] She later became a nationally known gay rights activist.[2] She has been controversial for her statement that "The proportion of men must be reduced to and maintained at approximately 10% of the human race", made in her book The Future-If There is One-Is Female.[3]

john neemstra Wow, you know they've managed to achieve this dream of theirs, cause they choose the men that exist. I worked in San Francisco, and know first hand how good homosexuals have-it in that city. I also know how much they hate straight men.
