This video is a tutorial on Sine and Cosine Rule Questions. You should have already watched the Sine and Cosine Rule 1 Tutorial 17. This video is for students attempting the Higher paper AQA Unit 3 Maths GCSE, who have previously sat the foundation paper. Explanations are aimed at being as simple as possible and so students who previously did the Foundation paper can access. They would also be useful for students who have always sat the higher paper. www.hegartymaths.com www.hegartymath...

SOHCAHTOA. Draw a width of river in as a line from a to the bank at right angles. This gives you a right angled triangle with angle 180-100 = 80. Then use SohCaHToA. I've done the full answer to this question in one of the practice papers - check it out if still stuck. Good luck tomorrow. Mr H

Examples are good, they make a lot of sense and the concept is easily grasped. Its just that when you deal with 3 dimensional examples and theta alpha and beta, instead of using proper numbers.(If you know what im saying)

Nicole. My guess is your calculator is in radians mode not degree. It must say DEG at the top of the calculator screen. Change this if so in settings. If it's not this can you give me an example of something you type, the answer you get so I can see what you're doing wrong. I'm sure it'll be an easy fix...

Some advice: It's better to memorise the formulas whether you have them or not. Why? Because if you can't memorise them then it's most likely you won't be able to identify when and how they are meant to be used. When I first saw formulas like the quadratic formula and the cosine rule etc I was like oh god I'll never remember them. However, after I practised using them so much I realised that I was so used to writing the formula down that I stopped looking at the formula to copy it down and was writing them from memory and I was amazed with myself. So that goes to show the best way to revise maths is to practise practise and practise and it's just like the old maths saying: Don't practise until you get it write, practise until you can't get it wrong :) p.s I too am in year 11 doing the new specification so in the same boat as you lol

Hi Maisie Lemmon, did you ever receive a reply to your question. I'm with you, impossible to get 107. even standing on someone else's head, looking at the night sky and heading toward stardom.. The answer is never 107. Therefore the calculation can't be correct.

I didn't but thank you for replying (and it seems like you agreed with me, that's a plus!) Unfortunately I have no idea what any of this means anymore because my GCSEs were 2 years ago.... BUT on the plus side I did get a B so obviously none of that stuff was very important anyway...

Mr H, my calculator is aldready in degree mode. i think i have a trouble in labeling, or does it really matters? because, when i tried to answer your test, "find the angle BCD", i was about to get the same solutions but when i was finally getting the angle, like for example, your given measures were 10.14cm, 7cm, and 5cm and then i labeled the 10.14cm as my b,and 7cm as my c, and 5cm as my a,then i substitute it to the cos rule concerned in finding the angle, but i didn't get the same answer :(

Then I do the bottom half -28.01 / 2 x 7 x 5 = -490.175. Then I should cos -1 it to get answer I get error. I use the formula but don't get the answer you get before you cos -1 it. Any ideas?
