Belting a note for 15 sec was just too easy and boring to her creatively evern though I love it when she does it and would love for her to do more of that. You're talking nonsense. Cheers. Anyway....weird enough huh? In regards to both singers all singers have to lip synch at times, I've seen both of them live several times actually. Both are amongst the greatest singers who have ever graced the mic. the level of difficulty of Mariah's songs is higher and much more demanding than that of WHitney's and that happens because Mariah was the songwriter and set the bar to levels that caused her to have nodules. Mariah has written some of the hardest songs ever made, imagine having to sing them one after another. Both are amazing singers who used their voices differently yet had very similar tones and power at their prime. Stop trying to put these people against one another. The fact that this was the year of Mariah's vocal decline. I mean her worst year!! Due to stressful reasons because drinking, pills, her ex-husband/divorce harassing her at this time and had a lot of the music industry turn on her. The fact she showed up and still did this at her worst is honestly amazing! & Besides all of that. It's amazing how truly gifted Mariah is. She literally sang through the whole entire song from down to up and up and down the scale. Keeping the song together and the melody in the right track.. Staying on key and also balancing out Whitney's parts! Her microphone was also having problems that day. Back stage her and Whitney swapped mics before the performance. & a lot of it was a bit out of sync. & The fact Mariah wasn't just having vocal problems and mic problems. People really underestimate the fact that the sheer power in her resonance. The way it matched and even in some parts went above Whitney's power. & you could tell every time Mariah's resonance was overpowering even with the lowerness of her Microphone. Whitney in my opinion looked like she had to add some extra runs while Mariah was really just trying to keep the entire song together traditionally and on top of that adding some extra stuff. & i love that! Two of the best amazing vocalists of ALL TIMES!

I really wish fans would stop perpetuating this crap. Mariah didn't have drinking or pill problems. She had a crazy ex and was working on multiple projects all the time in studio, she didn't have much of a voice left when it came to live, but still managed it here. She had meds in 2013 when she got help for her bipolar disorder, was seen with her pills once, and was immediately called an addict and everyone brought it up as if it was always a thing. She immediately stopped taking them and stopped getting help because gossip folks didn't know what they were talking about. She should've never been put in that position. After Mariah left Mottola they tried to pass her off as a party girl and took pictures of her holding a glass of wine. It's a party, she's always had drinks at parties like everyone else. She was never drunk and worked 24/7 until she got married at 40! All your doing is perpetuating Mottola's BS who's pressed because she left him and wanted off his label.

The fact that this song was composed and arranged for two Legends to arrange and recompose was itself a Miracle. I may be having a brain cramp, but I can't see how this can be duplicated, ever, given the class, style, talent, swag, sweetness, and sheer synergy of these two. Then there is your fandom, and what this song means to you. The video means so much to my family, as well. When my late son had gathered up some childhood birthday cash to spend, this is the video he wanted to buy. And, we all got to know this video very, very well. Because of Dave, this video means so much to me. Knowing this was your first visualization of these two goddesses together, live, I leaned right into it. I'm sure for events such as this everyone is going to do a sound check with all that's needed. Let's not event things. I've seen Whitney perform while seemingly tired. This is not one of those times. Mariah's voice allowed her tome quality to be better at her Oprah performance than on this. Nothing wrong with that. Out of all the people Whtney can be seen doing duets with Mariah, CeCe, BeBe Winans, Her brother Gary, Stevie Wonder, her cousin Dionne, her ex-Bobby, Mariah is the only one whose mic is turned down? Lol Anyone pushing that narrative sounds ridiculous. Please stop! The excuses everyone makes for Mariah anytime compared to Whitney are hilarious. Whitney was going through JUST as much or MORE than Mariah at this exact same time. They were both amazing vocalists. Whitney being the GOAT is never going to change because of the excuses. Mariah is a genius as well but it makes no sense to make excuses for one and not the other. They both had issues period!
@meepmeep31512 жыл бұрын
but it's really unnecessary to compare the two anyways, especially during this performance. The excuse is, mariah had her mic lowered because she's just recovering from bronchitis, which people like to criticize because all they can point out is mariah cant be heard and refuse to believe Whitney had mishaps in this performance. Generally speaking, when people say Whitney drowns Mariah out any day, obviously she does because her voice type suits a much darker and louder voice whereas Mariah's voice is a much lighter. Now picture that and apply it to this performance. These may seem like excuses, but they aren't. These are facts that debunk these unnecessary comparisons that shouldn't have been talked about in the first place. One has a naturally louder voice, one has a naturally softer voice. There's literally no comparison as they are different, and there's no point in it.

@@ilovetati91 sadly you did not get the shade. Whitney always had the bigger voice , iF mARIAH "DOMINATED HER AS YOU SAID, which is untrue, it means that performance in that small studio at Oprah show was the one that had mic problems....smdh....Mariah has never dominated Whitney. There is nothing or no where she could. She sang a half a second Barely audible eb5 belt and Whitney sand a 9 second phrased belt in one breath. resilient voice, hope is very near oooh ....and held a C#5 belt . Mariah came in at the end of Whitneys held breath and hit a fraction of a second Eb5..Whitney continued that line and ran into the word MIRACLE! in a bluesy tone. Go listen to the filtered version. No one aside from lambs hold this believe every person who has reacted to that performance outside of lambs do not share the lamb belief which is nearly always delusional anyways. Lastly, Oprah was dubbed for Mariah the first big believe B4 belt and last head voice BB5 was from the album version. go listen to the filter version, you will hear the production on those two notes only and they are directly same notes from the album no difference!

You know this was a *collab* between them, right? Ask yourself why you're under some random youtube video years after their collaboration, trying to stir sh between a woman who passed years ago and her coworker/friend who she respected. You're kinda also disrespecting the person you're trying to lift up by tearing someone else down. So unnecessary when you could have just said Whitney's amazing. I mean, do with your time what you will, but this comes off as very immature 🤷🏼♀️

I never understood why they always turn Mariah's mic down. This was '99, but it started in '98. Even to this day, half of her concerts its hard to hear her meanwhile she's being blown away by her back up and the music. She spends too much time obsessing over the back up arrangements and music configuration that she seems to just wing the lead vocals.

The concept of prime is an American thing, or a way you think of the craft or peak performance of, say, an artist that is truly disproportional. I really dislike it. Not everyone in the world gives so much importance to this. Losing one's voice, out of one's prime. What does it really mean!? They performed their arts with their instruments and underlining this thing about their primes is truly direspectful because it's out of proportion, excessively emphasized... That's it. My two cents. (Not targeted at anyone particularly.

@@marciopinheiro239 I'm not an American, thank you very much. That said I agree with you. I don't like it either, and I regret mentioning it because it doesn't align with how I listen to/think of artists myself. It's been used so much in online discourse when it comes to Mariah and Whitney that I wanted to make the point that if people think this is "out of their prime" then how incredible is their "prime". I don't think I put a lot of emphasis on it though, and I don't agree with you that I was disrespectful towards them or their performance or that I excessively emphasized that part at all. If you think so, I think you're letting that one part that annoys you overshadow everything else. My two cents.
