For the record: "All By Myself" is actually based on (a movement in) a piano concerto by Rachmaninoff, how cool!! Eric Carmen wrote the lyrics and released the song in 1975, and of course in 1996 Celine Dion's version brought the song to new audiences - one of them being a very little me, mesmerized by her vocals.

I've said this on a few videos now, but it is astonishing to me that at 42, Kelly's voice is the most clear and healthy it has ever been. I don't know what regime changes she's made - or if it's just the regular performances without the stress of a strict touring schedule have exercised it better... But, wow, we're seeing her truly hit her vocal peak only now.

I’ve been a fan for almost 17 years and I’ve watched every performance and have been there for the highs and lows and I do think she has genuinely mastered her art piece and she has really learned when she can and can’t do things. I think she has just really learned how to use her voice and to know when she can or can’t hit certain notes and to not push it when she can’t. Maybe it has to do with age but I think it just is living and learning her voice!

WHOA. This, ladies and gentlemen, is the personification of a showstopper. Kelly AND the band were SO into this and produced a truly magnificent performance. I was lucky enough to see Kelly performs several times in the early years, from the original American Idol tour, touring with Clay Aiken, and starting her own tours 💕 and what always struck me was how much she would “get into the zone” and close her eyes and just FEEL and become the song. WOW. And her skills since that time have continued to grow. I think she has found her muse in Celine Dion, don’t you? I wondered if the English (and non-technical) word you were searching for, Hege, was when she “trailed” off that big level of power with control and not coming to an abrupt halt. You made me laugh right out loud when you said your gasts were flabbered. Adorable, I think I just found a new favorite phrase! As far as I'm concerned, Kelly is the absolute best vocalist, not only in sound quality and lyric interpretation, but also technically, to come around since Streisand. Some singers can hit high notes, but they sound shrill/piercing or like they're screaming... not these two ladies. And kind of kismet perhaps too, is that they share the same birthday... only 40 years apart... so it took that long😉.

"It's true to the original" ... do you mean Celine Dion, or Eric Carmen, who wrote and recorded it in the mid-1970's. That's when I first heard it... I find Kelly's version different from both Celine and Eric Carmen's. She always makes them her own!

@@williamrich4311 If we're doing writer's credits, it's also based off of a movement in Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No 2 in C-minor, opus 18 (specifically the 2nd movement, Adagio Sostenuto). That's a bit long for the video title though.. Celine Dion popularized the song with her version in the 90s - the version my generation and target audience knows best. Kelly Clarkson performed the song in the style of Celine Dion, which is probably why The Kelly Clarkson Show has "Celine Dion" in the title, and also why I do it. Hope this helps ☺️
