Back in 2009 I bought a 1982 Honda V45 Magna with a throttle lock. In 40 years of riding I'd never used one, so I tried it on the hour commute to work... 3 times. The highway to work was hilly and curvy and not having immediate control of the trottle was terrifying. Never used it again. My grandson says the same.

The Harley-Davidson tank bags don't use magnets. They have straps that attach to the front and back of the tank.

I had a magnetic bag years ago, nearly every ride it would end up on my chest having come ‘unstuck’. It would get swarf from the road onto the magnets and scratch the paint. Got rid of it when my new bike had a plastic tank. Best type was the one with a tank cover with clips on it.

Putting you phone in a phone mount on your bike. The most dangerous accessory ever! I have seen people playing with the phone looking to take a call or changing the station, song, app something and not looking at the road. While I was the Road captain to a MC, I saw the craziest shit people do with their phones while riding a bike even on a MC ride. Do not play with your phone while driving. Just plain dangerous.

@kennethcole1551 13 күн бұрын
@ if your gauge in the speedometer don’t ring and don’t send me signals to answer them. I look at my gauge before I leave. I don’t need to look at it again. I said the speedometer to the speed limit. I don’t need to look at it either they have cruise control of my motorcycle. OK I need to look at the speed limit signs stop signs a curbside and all the other information I need to navigate the roads in this country you want to put the phone on your motorcycle go right ahead. But I think that’s just as dumb as telling bicycles they have to Hide in the same direction as traffic that’s another stupid thing you’re doing

If you put higher bars, mount to risers using a Gorilla Grabber. Not only does it have 2 bolts each side of riser but it has 3 Allen Screws to lock down on bars after bars are positioned to your comfortable zone. And ALWAYS use torque specs. Get yourself a foot pounds torque wrench, an Inch pounds torque wrench and a torque wrench in Newton meters, as bolt tensions varydepending on diameter or grade of bolt, or in application as depicted in the service manual. Also loctite strength ( strong, midstrength or lesser) is usually noted in the service manual

I've been running saddlebags for most of the last fifty years and long considered "tank bags" a dangerous piece of gear. I've lost saddlebags when straps broke but always seen/felt them leave and stopped to get them back. I stop when I need refreshment and don't get back on the road till I'm done. It's also a good time to take a break and check everything out. I put a cruise control, "vista-cruise" on my bike, had to bore the hole out to fit the inch bars, but it clamps down with a simple thumb lever and is carbon fiber so no rust or corrosion. I've had it on since the nineties and it's lasted well. Getting ready to put one on my antique Triumph, 78 T-140 for the spring. It's old habit to use after thirty years.

I got a Honda OEM one. It has two little clip-in straps that screw into the bike. Still annoying, but a whole lot less hassle than the Oxford one with the strap that goes around the bars, so you have to put it on and take it off every time. Never rely on just the magnets

oooooooohh i have a relevant and recent story! Just lost a tank bag in a group ride. Thankfully no one was hurt. I made the mistake of ignoring the signs of the straps starting to fray. And it only had 2 wimpy magnets to supplement the straps. I actually just got my new one today. 4 heavy duty magnets instead of 2 weak ones. Plus a much thicker Strap that wraps under the tank and frame. Plus going to make regular checks on it now. same time i check the fluids, and tire pressure. (every week.)

I have a tank bag on my old wing. A tool bag with fastex buckles attached to the handles. The matching buckles are screwed to the fake tank. I put a $8 lever on my Wing. After 100,000 miles the bushing wore out. I had a throttle lock on one bike. It had a screw adjustment and a little lever to engage is r disengage. Nice for warmup on a cold morning and to shake out my throttle hand. Never used it much.

Just brought my first bike and the tail light bulb she had on it was just bad in every way. It was in bulb modulated, was supposed to be sequentially while riding and flash when hitting the brakes. There was so little chance that it just sucked. On top of this, it was as dim as an old standard bulb. Changed to a super bright led and is much safer.

2 quickies: 1. I think you'd really benefit from having chapters on these longer vids with lists. For example, a tank bag would never make it on any bike for me, ever. 10 sec skips forward are cool... but chapters are fast. 2. Might want to look at the "Go Cruise" throttle lock on Amazon. I've run that product for over 10 years /100k miles on different bikes, even those like my M8 Limited that had cruise. The go cruise is so intuitive... way ahead of the HD cruise control to me. I have one on my RK and talk about it a bit in the debadging video on my channel. I've given them as gifts too...everyone seems to love the Go Cruise. It's nice because it's not a "lock" it's just slight friction...enough to hold the throttle but the instant you want more or less it just goes with you. Enjoy the miles! 👊

I carry my phone, wallet, firearm, house keys and other items in it with no trouble. I can remove it quickly and take it inside if I want. I have had magnetic bags and they always disappointed me.

Generic fit side bags are not really a good idea. If they are not a good fit they can interfere with the rear wheel or the chain. That is definitely one product you should consider paying a little more for to get a specific model fit if it is available.

I bought the studded/slant leather saddlebags on Temu for $56.47 vs 200-300+ dollars in this country. They'll fit my Star 250 just fine. But you still have to use saddlebag supports to attach them to for a solid mounting. I also bought this bracket to mount the license plate to that also relocates the rear turn signals. But it'll go on the rear fender behind that reflector above the brake light. License plate stays where it is. So rear turn signals are a bit higher and further back. And instead of a tank bag, I got the Willie & Max tail bag (AKA Sissy bar bag) to put small stuff in. Thought this was a better solution?

For tank bags, I like to sing the praise of SW Motech like you have on the GS in this video. They mount to a special ring that goes around your fill cap. It is easy to mount (and for some bikes it’s an upgrade because you need to replace parts of the filler cap assembly. And SW Motech tank rings are metal, not plastic. I have two of them by now and wouldn’t want anything else. The stay in place reliably. You just throw it on the ring (no contact with the tank btw!) and you’re good. I don’t want to fiddle around with straps and buckles on a tank bag. Side cases in my case come from Hepco&Becker. None of the two brands are budget brands, but you’ll get your money’s worth. Edit: Speaking of which: Get custom fitted hearing protection. Seriously. My ears aren’t ringing anymore after riding and I am less drained after long rides. Best 160 bucks I ever spent.

Well, My '18 Star 250 has what LOOKS like slip-ons, but they're tack welded to an expansion chamber to lower sound levels. Some also have cat-con grids in them. Just going to put this out there for everyone. ..... Polycarbonate , ( aka Lexan ), is always the way to go, period !.. I haven't done any research on the 'Quantum Coating ' side of things, .... But I imagine that it prevents things like Asterisms of approaching headlights at night, and also protects the wind screen from UV damage. I had a Street-Sheild on my Virago years ago the was made of poly C, and no issue, butt at the same time.... I've never ever used a plexiglass windscreen on my rides. So therefore I cannot attest to the optical diff's at night. I just went with what I knew was the toughest.... Lexan. ( think Bullet proof glass ==>> Lexan). Stay Safe

I'll just add the one criticism, you really ought to reserch better, your video clip of a 1250 GS for example , the GS's have either aluminium or plastic tanks. Guess what, magnetic tankbags dont work on them and in the second clip where the rider had his forearm on the tankbag, he wasn't holding it on he was giving his left hand a rest from the clutch grip. GS tanlbags are all strapped down or held by a tank ring to the bikes.
