Great video, guys. I really love how you explained the design aspects of the house in a comprehensive but down-to-earth way. I've visited Heide a few times over the years but brought my infant daughter with me for the first time recently. Lockdown meant that the building was closed but she thoroughly enjoyed exploring the secret gardens and walkways outside. I wish I could go inside and see the current exhibition with the original furniture. Thanks so much for a really great video.

I watched this a few days ago but didn't get a chance to comment... I've been thinking about this building ever since - how is this not taught more at uni?! How is this the first time I'm encountering this building?! Just brilliant.. Seems like Heide II did DfMA before it was cool. I immediately fell in love with the architecture and the feeling you get when you are both inside and outside. I came away wanting to know more about the house and who designed it and found this video, thank you for such a wonderful explanation. I am not an architect, so the breakdown of why it is so great was very educational. I would love to have a home like this one day, it is perfect in every way, I am in love.

Having grown up in the Rippon House, I can assure you, the WOW factor is multiplied many times in that building compared to Heide. Definitely not the best house in Australia. Sure, it clearly has a lot of intelligent architectural lessons, but the interior aesthetic is actually like being in a hospital - same with the furniture. And some of the design choices are questionable- like having uncomfortable rough wool on all the surfaces people sit and walk on in a conversation pit, or having the pit on an upper level completely different from the actual entertaining area. And sure, the laundry is in a nice spacious area with a view to the outdoors, but you’re only going to be in that room while doing laundry, and the washing machine and dryer are faced away from the window towards a dead end wall. Plus the whole “nothing to stop you falling off the staircase and landing” problem. Things like that…
