In the military as a radioman we had nothing but Shure mics.

Yup, Heil 781, Heil shock mount on a Pl2T and a foot switch. Works good. Going to get a sister set for the 2nd radio in the shack. I like things to match.

Hey Mike, you’re absolutely right about the boom with the microphone love mine a lot I have the Heil foot pedal but I’m using my Kenwood MC 60 microphone with my Kenwood TS 2000. It is nice to have a hands-free but sometimes my kitties takes up to space at my desk. Oh well, have a great weekend. WD5ENH Steve

I too use the PL 2T and Heil foot switch for SSB Phone operation. Really works swell and is ergonomic as well. Hands free so I can type or take notes. Art W1SWL

Boom mic and a foot switch (a.k.a monolog switch lol) are the only way to fly. I have one set up for my G90 lol.

Or a headset mic. My home's HVAC air handler is 6 feet behind me and it's loud. Got to keep the mic close to my mouth to cut the noise out. And +1 for the foot switch.

My favorite boom arm is the blue compass. I paired it up with a shure sm7b microphone.

That looks like a great boom as well. I've looked at those several times.

@@hamradiotube yeah I like them so much I ended getting a total of eight of them when I was podcasting with my family.

A boom, good mic, and foot PTT switch are the only way to operate! Add a good external speaker and headphones and you're set. You'll never go back to a hand mic.

I just can't get into wearing headphones. I've never really liked wearing them.

Hey Mike, ive always wondered about these booms, but do you think the $13-$20 Ebay booms would be any good? They have external springs on them, but look ok.....

Heil mics suck with exception of one PR40. All the rest suck esp for ham radio. I prefer the Electra voice re27ND and you can get them used for 250ish new is 500 but well worth the $ don’t waste $ on the Yaesu mics or anything cheap they may sound ok but once you move away they start to pick up a ton of room noise and fan noise sum even are effected by RF so yea do research before buying a mic 😉😉

Good thing I have a stash of Shure mics lying around. I've not used a Heil. Those EV's are very nice too. If I really felt like splurging I'd prob get a Shure SM7B.

Curious if you ever use the vox instead of the foot switch.
