Thank you for sharing your experience with this box! I wonder if you have tried Blue Earth pastel sticks? They are quite small and so you could have a much larger selection of sticks, which pastels are your go to brands? I am also curious about how your other pastels are stored. Please share what your comfortable with sharing, thanks!

mjpete27, I have not tried blue earth pastels as yet. I hear they have a softness comparable to Ludwig or Great American. My studio pastels are stored in plastic silverware trays grouped into hue and value--i always have a rainbow around to cheer me! I'm in the process of creating a "getting started with pastel" course which will give details on how to store pastels. Keep an eye out for that! 😊

Probably 6"x8", Margo. Certainly not larger.

Where do you get 6 x 8 paper? what have you been using?

Karl thanks for your comment. I actually buy UArt 400 in the roll and cut to whatever size I like. I'm not sure any of the common pastel papers come in a 6x8 size, but there's no reason you can't cut it for yourself.

About how many pastels will that hold?

Linda, it definitely depends on the size of the pastels. For instance, those Holbein pastels, broken in half as they are, you can see that the box would easily hold upwards of 60. On the other extreme, Terry Ludwig pastels, even broken, are so much chunkier. You might be able to fit 30-40.
