The Pink Berkley Tie Dye look amazing Chris! I will give them a try next year.My Tumbling Tom's have been prolific this year and some have grown quite large too. Alice's Dream have been OK but Striped Stuffer have been better. More tomatoes and great flavour. Your enthusiasm for tomato growing is infectious! 😊😊

Thank you! Pink Berkeley Tie Dye really are a beautiful and tasty tomato, and I think you’ll enjoy growing them next year. It’s great to hear your Tumbling Tom’s have done so well-always nice when they surprise you with bigger fruit. Interesting that Striped Stuffer outshone Alice’s Dream for you this year; it’s always fascinating how different varieties perform. Have you decided what you're growing next season? Or is it too early?

@@veggieplot I will give some more varieties I have from you next year. Maybe grow more varieties but less of each.

Truly enjoying your taste tests. You show the toms at their ripest. I’m also picking my fruits when they’ve coloured but further ripening them indoors in a warm place for a few days. I find this deepens the colours which intensifies flavour. Our toms atm are eaten as snacks by the family - eaten like sweets tbh🤩 thanks for inspiring me to grow more varieties next season 👍

Thank you Margaret, I'm glad you find them useful. It sounds like you have tomatoes around the kitchen for snacking on 😂 just like us. The honeycomb go first followed by anything sweet!

My Berkley tie die is a beefsteak size, absoloutely huge, one slice covers a round of toast, big producer too, same colouring, amazing taste, my wife has not stopped going on about the taste for weeks

Thanks Ali. Do you get your Ananas Noire from Carmel Bella Farm? I'd love to try their seeds but they don't ship to the UK. I'm hoping the rest of mine pack more of a flavour punch. Happy growing to you too.

I've had 1.27 lb Black Krim and my 2nd favorite and wife's favorite. I'm 6a Mid Ohio USA and black Krim are the only slicers I plan for next season and will have salsa tomatoes also this season LA Roma has been a good salsa. Thanks

@@veggieplot I used sunflower as my cover crop and only adding bone meal at planting time and must be on raised in ground beds as I've have clay base soil so drainage is our biggest challenge. The method is easier than any of the 7 ways I've tested and more productive and larger on average tomatoes. I've just tried peppers that method and the first season seems also better. Providing drainage and sunflower as cover crop and don't disturb the roots ball just following into the root ball with the tomato seedlings after bone meal in the bottom of the seedlings hole.

I grew my first Ananas Noir this year. I couldn’t believe it when the first one to ripen weighed just under 1KG (875 Grammes). Grown in the greenhouse in a raised bed with our own horse manure compost I totally agree with your taste description. Very acid. I still think you can’t beat the flavour of the Noire de Crimee. Best ever tasting tomato which i grow every year without fail. Thanks for all the effort you have gone to in this mini series.

Some of them are huge aren't they, but like you, I wish they had more flavour. I looked up Noire de Crimee and then realised it was the same as Black Krim 😂 Great tasting tomato though, and well worth growing.

Things sold as Black Krim/Black Russian seem to be highly variable. I've grown them for multiple years with seeds from different places and I get something different every time. One year I had all large beefsteak tomatoes that were delicious and sold me on the variety. Another I've had similar to what you've got here - a fairly normal looking slicing tomato but with darker flesh.
@veggieplot4 ай бұрын
That's good to know as I had a feeling mine should be larger. I might see if I can find new seeds for next year.
@ImGlyn4 ай бұрын
That's an interesting observation. I grew Black Russian last year here in Australia from locally bought seed. It was a very large, dark, pleated fruit, with a very rich complex umami tomato flavour. We loved it so much we've saved the seed for this year & the seedlings are growing strongly. I wonder if it will be the same this year?

Ananas Noire is still my favourite over Alice's Dream, I really like the twang it has. Still waiting for my Sart Roloise to ripen. I am actually growing the three Berkeley Tie Dyes. I am looking forward to comparing the red, pink and green. I have grown the green before and it was a winner for me. Another great tomato that I have grown this year is the Thorburns Terra Cotta, such an unusual brown/orange burnished colour, nice rich flavour, managing to be savoury, sweet and tangy. Added to my top ten 😊. Really enjoying your taste tests, they give me great ideas for next year, thank you!

I also have grown Thorburn’s Terracotta for the last few years. I enjoy the smoky sweet taste. I grow dwarf tomatoes. I like the Mallee Rose. It’s a pink tomato and very juicy and sweet. I am also growing the Lucky Swirl. It’s supposed to be a sweet dwarf but hasn’t quite ripened up yet.
@veggieplot4 ай бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion about TT, I might give that a go next year. I like the dwarf varieties but they do tend to get very congested here and need a lot of thinning to stop the blight and other diseases wreaking havoc. The Uluru Ochre have been a great producer though and well worth the effort.

Oo, love your labels, where did you get them? Are they like a chalkboard material or just plastic plastic?

Hi Susan, your the third person to mention the Black Krim, so I think I need to try some different seeds. Having said that, we've had a very cold and wet summer here with little sunshine and I think may have had something to do with it.

I hate to say this but a few of your tomatoes are not ture to type like the captain luck it should be Green with just a small amount of red to it, yours has way too much red in it. It should be like the Ananas Noir
@veggieplot4 ай бұрын
You might well be right Kim, but I can only go by the seed supplier and seeds sent. I imagine there will always be some variations both in seed batches and the tomatoes on the plant. Ananas Noire was a bit of a let down when it comes to the colours internally so I might try and source new seeds for them next year.
