the thing I loved about how usopp rejoined was how this whole arc gave both usopp and luffy a lot of maturity and humbled them. luffy because he needed to learn you can't have everything you want through belief. the merry falling apart is a prime example and learned that being a captain, you ARE going to have to make some tough decisions, ones that you really don't like. Usopp needed to grow up. he was still that kid they met on his home island and had a lot of insecurities as a fighter. granted the beatings he got from franky and co made him feel worse, but his utter refusal to admit fault and lying to himself started to piss me off. he had to see that there were consequences of his actions. Now he clearly didn't think this all through, and was impulse on him quitting, but he still made his choice to leave. zoro was right to call them out, they basically treat him like a baby brother when he runs to them and he needed to sink or swim on his own so he will learn the lesson on his own.

I still think Luffy would have handled it well after Usopp got right to staring him right in Luffy's eyes, realizing the Merry was fully done for, and having Sogeking as his security blanket, but I still agree with Zoro's point and realize he at the very least sped up the reconciliation process.

It was how oda transitioned the group's dynamic as a whole into an actual pirate crew from a family setting. Merry was usopp's one only "contribution" to the squad, since even just having him around is a liability to the crew (he loses their cash by being too weak to protect himself, etc). So he was the only one who felt 100% defensive about merry needing to go, because merry was one of his only responsibilities and it seems he had failed at even that. Oda then ties usopp's development to luffy's growth into an actual, commanding, resolute, leader because luffy needed to learn that he needs to be steadfast in life-threatening, crucial decision-making moments if he wants to continue his journery for pirate king

He’s not the VC he’s the first mate the first person to join Luffy should have a say in things like letting people walk all over the Captain Zoro is the most devoted and ambitious one besides Luffy that’s why it seems that way but it takes more than being really strong to be a VC you gotta be smart, strategic experienced etc… Zoro isn’t that buddy can’t even follow simple directions and is sleeping or training most of the time when he isn’t fighting the VC is more fit for a balanced person like Sanji who can fight as a rival to Zoro and also is much smarter but if anyone is caught up in the anime we now have a crew mate even more fitting for VC than Zoro and Sanji the first son of the sea 🤫🌚

The end of Water 7 gave me such respect for Zoro. He did his job as the vice captain/first mate and put his foot down where he needed to, but also acted like he didn't hear Usopp so when he apologized, it was technically the first thing Zoro heard. He's a man of honor, but Usopp's also his friend.

I’ve just finished watching 325. What’s beyond amazing about Ace’s “Yield to power” line is that it says a lot about Whitebeards’ crew. Ace didn’t join Whitebeard for being the strongest Emperor. Whitebeard has a captain quality so incredible that it convinced someone like Ace to be a part of that crew! And this idea really cements itself in how strong Whitebeard upheld his moral code within pirates for his reason to teach… Teach, a lesson. In short, my respect for Whitebeard and his crew is through the split sky right now.
