As a young man in Rio de Janeiro, Heitor Villa-Lobos frequently played with street musicians, improvising on popular songs and dances of the day. One of the musical forms with which he was well familiar was the chôro, the origin of which is rather obscure. Villa-Lobos himself saw the chôro as a popular dance in which, in his words, "are synthesized the different modalities of Brazilian, Indian, and popular music." Starting in 1920, Villa-Lobos began composing his own chôros (he designated each of those works with the plural form of the word), eventually producing 14 such works. They range in size from solo miniatures (No. 1 for guitar, No. 5 for piano) to sizable works for large forces (No. 10 for orchestra and chorus). The Chôros No. 1 for guitar, dedicated to Ernesto Nazareth, is an insouciant five-minute piece in rondo form featuring a sequence of memorable melodies, spiced by a few expressive dissonances and a hint of the swinging rhythm of the tango. I like how this performance reveals the beautifully sonorous qualities of villa-lobos' composition.

I really enjoy this more "laid back," less percussive or staccato, version of this piece.

Agreed. This guitarist is truly on another level than most. I think she breaks a lot of ground in terms of her approach to classical guitar pieces.
@rjlchristie2 жыл бұрын
She is actually adding percussion effects but yes, this is less staccato and less forced in its feeling than a great many interpretations. Check out Alvaro Pierri's version on KZbin for another, perhaps even better, interpretation in similar vein.
El acercamiento apropiado latinoamericano. Excelente. Perfección en todos los ejes.

It's Brazilian Choro, it has almost nothing to do with flamenco music other than this particular work also utilises the guitar.

Achei legal... mas meio "nervoso". Eu faria com um pouco mais de expressão. Nos meus áureos tempos de violonista eu tocava esse choro do Villa.

I enjoyed the hint of percussion but it was overdone in the final repeat. Overall, a relaxed, swinging interpretation.

Boa tarde!

Engraçado, essa parte eu sempre toquei G# e nunca me dei conta disso kkkkk

Questo video sembrerebbe una registrazione di villa lobos. La registrazione appare mezzo tono sopra. Tuttavia l'accordo sembra maggiore. Ascolta nel punto esatto: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4vOdoyBabx-gck i think that on this score there is a mistake. They forgot a sharp 🧐😅
@FISHERPACO Жыл бұрын
Exactamente,yo ví en otras partituras y colocan el B# o C Natural, entonces en ese orden de ideas lo voy a tocar así con B#, muchas gracias Amigos,por la observación.

This rendition is not very good. As a Brazilian musician I can say there's no Brazilian soul, Brazilian feeling, Brazilian swing on it. Please, listen to Turibio Santos playing Villa-Lobos.
@divagaciones16284 жыл бұрын
I honestly enjoyed this version much better, it has a lot more nuance in the rhythm as well as the dynamics. Turibio's version feels rushed and somewhat unpolished compared to this one. I don't know specifically about brasillian music, but Kyuhee Park is considered to be a young genius of classical guitar, and I think she's innovating a lot with her approach to the instrument.
@m.s.36254 жыл бұрын
Carlos Espinosa You can prefer this rendition and of course she’s a genius of classical guitar, as Turibio still being, but my comment still being right. As you said, you don’t know about Brazilian music and on it includes you don’t know how to do the best interpretation of it, as Kyuhee Park also don’t know. Turibio knew Villa-Lobos, Turibio met and talked to the maestro and much more with his wife, Mindinha Villa-Lobos. "Choro" is a Brazilian form and it’s popular music, it’s to be played with lots of passion, molto cantabile, with rubato, in the way of Turibio plays. Believe me, Brazilian Classical Music mustn’t be played like Bach or Mozart or other European composer. This rendition is perfect about the notes but’s there are lots of problems with interpretation on it.
