Lyrics:
I pulled into Nazareth, I was feelin' about half past dead;
I just need some place where I can lay my head.
"Hey, mister, can you tell me where a man might find a bed?"
He just grinned and shook my hand, and "No!", was all he said.
(Chorus:)
Take a load off Fannie, take a load for free;
Take a load off Fannie, And (and) (and) you can put the load right on me.
I picked up my bag, I went lookin' for a place to hide;
When I saw Carmen and the Devil walkin' side by side.
I said, "Hey, Carmen, come on, let's go downtown."
She said, "I gotta go, but m'friend can stick around."
(Chorus)
Go down, Miss Moses, there's nothin' you can say
It's just ol' Luke, and Luke's waitin' on the Judgement Day.
"Well, Luke, my friend, what about young Anna Lee?"
He said, "Do me a favor, son, woncha stay an' keep Anna Lee company?"
(Chorus)
Crazy Chester followed me, and he caught me in the fog.
He said, "I will fix your rags, if you'll take Jack, my dog."
I said, "Wait a minute, Chester, you know I'm a peaceful man."
He said, "That's okay, boy, won't you feed him when you can."
(Chorus)
Catch a Cannonball, now, t'take me down the line
My bag is sinkin' low and I do believe it's time.
To get back to Miss Annie, you know she's the only one.
Who sent me here with her regards for everyone.
(Chorus)

I was in Fort Worth, TX, in the seventies, I remember things by decades, anyway, I was asked to do a survey at the Skylite Bar to see lighting, sound, and power requirements, it was an old burned-out warehouse that had a bad fire, no roof, it held 5000 people, 8 bars always six deep, Got to meet all the guys, shared some stories, had a great time with them, there golden in book, Robbie just passed, only one left. just thought you would enjoy this story.

When he played “The Weight” for Dylan for the first time, Bob said “you wrote that” letting Robbie know this was that good..Truly one of the great rock guitarist’s ever and just as great of song writer as well. RIP Robbie Robertson, Robbie Robertson was born July 5, 1943 in Toronto, Ontario. The son of a Jewish father and Mohawk mother, Jaime Robbie Robertson's first brush with live music came at the Six Nations Reservation, his mother's girlhood home; at the age of five, he also gained exposure to the country music of rural America. Not long after-ward, he began taking guitar lessons from a cousin, and gradually started composing his first songs. As time wore on, his musical interests evolved from country to big band to rock, and he eventually dropped out of school to pursue a career as a performer. A TORONTO MUSICAL LEGEND

Robbie Robertson wrote one hell of a song in connection to the other songs from the album on which this was released and offered up biblical bits and pieces to the story. The song has been out for 53 years….unreal. The inclusivity of the different stylings is perfect for the piece. When Mavis sings with her buttered toffee voice or just throats a note I feel the goosebumps and adrenaline and I still wonder if I’m hearing what I’m definitely hearing. Her voice is difficult to define and must be heard! For me, she makes an incredibly special song even more special. It is a fun ride of a song and they all do it justice.

What a great band and Levon Helm was such a great humble man! I had the honor and pleasure to meet Levon and Garth. My brother and I were walking into the show a bit after most of the crowd had already entered and we see Mr. Helm and Mr. Hudson pull up in front of the concert hall from about a hundred yards away, we waved and kinda yelled out hi guys just hoping for a wave back and Mr Helm just turned direction and came running up to us with Mr Hudson kinda following behind. Levon held his hand out...shook our hands and we said it was great to meet you, we love your music and he hung out for a few minutes and made some small talk and then says I gotta go and actually it is so nice to meet you. Mr Hudson a bit shyer says hi too and they just bee lined inside...We walked in took our seats and Levon ran on the stage 30 seconds later...and started up like the pro he was. Levon was the real deal!
