Helen Burch Moreland 88 of Hiawassee, Georgia passed away Monday, May 13, 2024, in a Hiawassee hospital. She was born January 14, 1936, in Clay County, North Carolina to the late Guy Elmo and Nina Lee Ashe Burch. She was a 1955 graduate of Hayesville High School and was Homecoming Queen her senior year. Helen met the love of her life, Ernest and moved to Louisiana where she started her family. Helen worked as a registered nurse and enjoyed being able to help others in need. She spent most of her adult life in Columbia, Maryland where she practiced as a Registered Nurse. She was a devoted member of Columbia Baptist Fellowship, where she served as deaconess and chairman of the deacons. Helen retired and returned to her roots in Hiawassee, Georgia. Helen continued her devotion to the Lord, attending Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church where she remained active.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by a son, Michael Moreland and a brother, Johnny Burch.
She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Ernest Moreland; one daughter, Rhonda Myers and husband, Jeff of Hiawassee, Georgia; and a daughter-in-law Barbara Moreland of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Christopher Moreland and wife, Megan, Timothy Moreland and wife, Jamielynn, Scott Moreland and wife, Breanna, Ashley Greeley and husband, Zach; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Juanita Pulliam, Margaret Hedden and Alecia Mensik; and three brothers, David Burch, Ronnie Burch, and Danny Burch; also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
