I saw Helen sings with Harry James. I enjoyed her voice then and I still like her delivery. In my opinion music during this period of time is the best ever.

Wow! Great voice. I grew up on rock and roll but I love some of the old Big Band songs from the 40's.

Saw and heard her many times, most notably at Ravinia Park north of Chicago. She kept that fabulous voice and style till the end. She was an ebullient lady who really enjoyed people and life.

For me Helen Forrest was the leading female Big banda singer she sang with Benny Goodman Harry James and others. She and James were in some movies together. She was born in 1918 and died in 1999.

Impressionante como apesar da idade, Helen Forrest estava com a voz firme e muito afinada!! Foi a mais famosa e caríssima crooner dos anos 40. Ela teve um rumoroso caso com o Band-Leader Harry James.

Her ending is such a sad story. I knew helen at this point of her life. I really dont know how she did it. When she was sitting on my high school boyfriends mothers couch she looked so frail. She was a classy lady. I have pictures somewhere. Her son, Michael, lived with my boyfriends sister for years. Michael would always bring his mom to their house but she was so so uncomfortable there. Sitting bext to some random dude the mother would bring over for the holidays. Michael had all her original recordings and many many albums and memorabilia. He was a pack rat anyway... I talked to Michael the day before he went into the hospital to get his 33% clogged artery cleaned and opened. He was overweight but had lost weight, gotten married to a really nice gal at that point and looking forward to a future together. He was in the hospital for weeks and wehen his wife got him out of there he walked into his house and had a heart attack and died. Thos was in 2010 maybe. I had 2 little boys myself so i was brain dead for a few years from diapers and leggos His widow was broken hearted and they(her son) had garage sales..things like that, and she moved back where her family was, Oregon i think. Lots of the stuff went to the landfill outside of L.A. somewhere.

Do you have any idea how to reach Michael's wife? I worked with Helen in her last years and have been trying to get royalties for her, as well as getting her book reissued. Do you remember the wife's first name?

@@aeichler i sent her an email and ill let you know when she gets back to me. I didnt have a minute to call her, we have all had covid. I think michael would of had a comment about me having covid.....he would say something like, kathy, if you have covid and kill anymore braincells you will be able to hide youe own easter eggs. That was michael jewish or not he would make a joke.

Thanks. She should remember who I am. I was also one of Helen's pallbearers and joined Michael in putting a shovel of dirt on the grave.

@@aeichler ok. I mentioned your name i just haven't heard anything back. Loved Michael, he was such a complete horses ass most of the time bet so was i. We had the inlaw thing going even though he wasnt married to Charlyne and i wasnt married to her brother Ed. He loved to give me shit. I met his mom a few times but always thought he shouldnt of taken her to Judy's because she just looks so unbearably uncomfortable. At least there are in heven together. Well im sure she can visit him because he got in trouble for running his ornery mouth. Lol
