We venture to the area regularly (Unicoi State Park). Helen has become an interesting place. Some very strange visitors (not necessarily of the family variety), but a cool place for first time visitors. A tourist trap for sure, but there are hidden gems there.

We recently visited again and hiked Blood Mountain and Tallulah Falls. Helen is a blast - and North Georgia is indeed a wonderful place to experience the outdoors! Thanks for the comment!

Helen is amazing, def get out to the trails and hikes and stay out of the city. One of my favorite places of all time, glad to be near by.

There are so many great trails and waterfalls in the area and there are also great non-touristy shops if you venture just a few miles away. Stay in a cabin and spend your days exploring.

Helen is way too crowded and overpriced for any meal! Its in the middle of nowhere, yet you have to pay for parking and deal with huge crowds. Just go to any nearby town and get better food at better prices with no wait and no crowds. Its basically 100s of shops selling overpriced candy and tourist stuff.

Crowds are a consideration. Often it's a pain and can drive up prices - but it can also add to the fun! Your description is accurate, but some still think it's worth it. We appreciate the comment!

@@criscale3667 there are also great restaurants just outside of town and a short drive to Clarkesville or Cleveland. Hoochee's River Basket is just outside town. They have an awesome breakfast and lunch. Bleu Canoe is a guest favorite and they have the most amazing Cajun food. Clyde's Tavern in Cleveland is another favorite and the parking is free at all of these.

My family ate at the Hofbrauhaus and were very disappointed. Everyone's food was terrible.
