Helen's genuine heart, sincerity and passion just made me realize why I enjoy her movies to this day. She certainly brings a je ne sais quoi to a movie that might otherwise be mediocre. She's very talented, hardworking and humble. That might have something to do with her appeal, as well.

PAM GRIER was the ULTIMATE in that year. She was ROBBED. As Much as I love J. Lo as "Selena", The film paints her to be a saint, and she comes across rather flawless, and not human. That is the only detractor from that wonderful movie. The film makers should take a cue from The TINA TURNER bio pic, and made the character REAL. Anyhow, Pam should have won, then J. Lo for her performance as "Selena". Then I'd say Helen, in a film we do not mention, nor discuss these days like we do Jackie Brown or Selena. Also, Pam Grier, hell should have got it for her Lifetime spent making woman to be the strong, gorgeous creations they are. But congrats to Helen anyhow.

Everyone here who keeps saying JLO should have won is clouded by their like for the woman. JLO delivered a good performance in Selena, but the material never let her shine. She deserved the nomination for this award. There was more than one performance that blew her out of the water in this category though.

I thought it was a stupid move when she suddenly switched gears and decided to become a pop singer the same year. Henceforth, she focused all of her attention on music, while she did run-of-the-mill rom-coms/thrillers on the side. I truly believe she would've been an Oscar nominee -- maybe even winner -- by now if she had stuck to acting and honed her craft.
