UK was years ahead in both starting and stopping child transition. The US will get there after about the same lag period, which is at least 5 years (Tavistock/GIDS was well into transing kids in 2002; the first US gender clinic, in Boston, didn't open its doors until 2007). My girlfriend went to university a bit later at 21, some of the things she experienced are that ridicules you would struggle to believe. One task they got early on was they were shown a map of the hallways of the university where they had just been shown around and they were all asked to mark on the map where they felt the most anxiety or less safe and threatening. My girlfriend had no idea what on earth this was all about but alot of younger students jumped right in and started marking map and debating which hallway was the most unsettling, there was no logical reasons for why they were all so scared but nonetheless they all took part in this. Another one was they watched an old cartoon to study male violence and it came with a trigger warning because in the cartoon from the 40s there was a man who was learing at Betty Boop. Also during a talk about formula 1 glamour girls and how the were exploited my girlfriend disagreed and pointed out the made a fortune and all love their job, the consensus of the class was that my girlfriend, being a bit older was brainwashed just like the formula 1 girls into not realising they were a victim of the patriarchy . This is an institution of higher learning. What happened to us?

It has only been 4 years since the offer of a visiting fellowship to Jordan Peterson from the faculty of Divinity in Cambridge was “rescinded " following "protests" from some students. Peterson, a senior academic at the University of Toronto, wanted to spend a few months in academic seclusion working on a critical analysis of the Book of Genesis. The prospect of his very presence on the banks of the Cam expressing his views filled a few with rage and alarm which in turn caused the Faculty bigwigs to buckle at once. I love Cambridge and it has meant a lot to me but this episode filled me with shame and embarrassment. I have no connection with the Faculty of Divinity but this made me sick. Odd vibes of the Puritan hysteria and take over of Cambridge in the 17th century.

All this controversy baked up in colleges and universities is so small by comparison to the rest of us in the world it becomes rather insulting. By contrast, the rest of the problems we face in the world effect 100 percent of the population, not just some infinitely small fraction of the populace. The amount of respect these places of learning receive today is reduced by a quantum figure due to their "pin head" points of view.
