For the "Special Edition AKA High-Flying Editin" release of "Pete's Dragon" movie coming to Disney DVD August 18th 2009, I decided to help promote the release with a special music video. "Hi There" The fact is that "Pete's Dragon" was panned by critics for being too long and having too many needless music numbers and weak plot. Of course Helen Reddy's song is the main thing in the movie and the movie is a vehicle for the song. But it is one of those things, Helen Reddy became known for being in "Pete's Dragon" but it was a movie that failed to find its audience.

Helen was denied an Academy Award for this song. The Academy chose Debbie Boon's cover of "You Light Up My Life". Helen Reddy is more talented than Pat and Debby combined.

Back then I liked both of the songs equally & I still have some fond memories of "You Light Up My Life" but in the current time I realize that this song, "Candle On The Water" is a much better song with a much better performance & should have won the Best Song Oscar without any question. Debbie Boone had better songs that didn't hit as big, like "California" that likely also got swept under the rug because her cover of "You Light Up My Life" was so popular.

This song does mean alot with the words to it and will melt your heart as it does mine. Now I know we r all different to taste but two reasons why I love this film with all the songs and a great star cast is. Back when it was on at the Odeon Glasgow this was the only film my Ma with my 2 young brothers saw with me. That was our only one special day at the cinema. The other reason is from way on back to my small very young boy childhood I have always loved Dragons even fantasy friends of make believe because I had a whole rejected childhood. And this film means so much as Peter Pan and Neverland does. At age 10 I was in a boys home. We all need a beacon candle light. It's the only way out of the darkness. There's room for everyone in this world as it's sung in Petes Dragon. It's a shame many adults don't believe in that. This is a great all time classic like Peter Pan it will go on for all who need it always without fail ever.

"Pete's Dragon" (1977/78) was probably the last "old school" Disney flick ever made: a live action musical w/accompanying animation...sweet and sentimental. Even "The Cat from Outer Space" and "Unidentified Flying Oddball" though very much of the "Dean Jones" school, were attempting to cash in on the post Star Wars hype. Over the succeeding decade, things morphed from "The Black Hole" to "Tron", to the Touchstone Comedies and then the "retro/classic animation" craze ("Little Mermaid et al.).

One of the most beautiful songs ever written. I was addicted to this movie soundtrack when I was a kid. The other awesome song on the soundtrack that Helen Reddy sings is "There's Room for Everyone", which would be perfect for the Democratic Convention right now, since no one but Wealthy White Supremacists are welcome in Traitor Trump's Terror Campaign. The last lyrics of that song are, "Let's all make sure we give everyone somewhere to stand, just the way God planned it, just the way God planned!"
