What a fantastic speaker. She’s very zizekian in that she can just keep going and yet remain on topic.

Animals are conscious but not self conscious, that's a good one

The difference in our genes between us and chimps really boils down to our neurons replicate a little differently and a dramatic reduction in olfaction and in the rhinoncephalon in general… so yeah… we can’t smell 😂

And how does that affect our psychic structure? That’s the interesting question.

@@RahulSam I like to think of it like a computer; the hardware and the software share in the manifestation of the interface for the user. The software can only operate if the hardware is congruent to that operation. Since we lack a lot of perceptual abilities compared to other animals, the neuronal operation utilises an interface that allows for complex interpretation of the perceptual data we intake. Our prefrontal cortices take up some of the real estate that the rhinoncephalon would have occupied, which gives us the ability of extrapolation, prediction, planning and imagination. These new abilities then shaped our meaning structure and we were able to harness the power of archetypes, heuristics and memes more effectively. In Blackmores concept of the memeplex, the memes actually drove evolution to make those modifications for their own replication in a sort of symbiosis. Our own psychic structure is entirely dependent upon the capability of our brains, hence why other animals have no access to our complex interfaces. Hope that makes sense!

Does not actually know about the references mentioned. Too quick to assign importance and relevance.
