this song is called Gabriellas song. Gabriella here in the movie is an abused woman. The man in the audience is her husband is an evil man. Here in the song Gabriella finds herself and her strength.He is angry because he wants to see her weak and oppressed. The song makes her the strong woman she's always been but didn't dare to be. finally she finds the strength to leave him. The choir she sings is full of people who feel a lot of sadness but find comfort in each other

Great that you do this, it´s about a wife beaten up (abused) by her husband, but finally say enough and starts to sing, and the support she has from the choir of that small society (and every one!), in northern of Sweden.. A great swedish movie (by Kay Pollack)! with Micke Nyqvist as the choir leader ..!

For those not familiar with swedish film the conductor is the bad guy in John Wick 1
@loris-bismar11 ай бұрын
@@permartinlarsson1980jag är såklart välbekant med Mikael 😊. The best scene in that movie is when Aurelio tells him that his son had stolen John Wick's car and killed his dog and Viggo immediately changed his tone and mustered out a somewhat fearful "oh" before hanging up the phone. The whole "my dad will hear about this" type of thing that backfires hilariously 😂😂

very few people have the ability to truly convey emotions while singing. imo, helen is one of the very best. she truly understands that in order for people to connect to the song, you can't just sing the words on the page but you have to truly live through them. this performance is incredible, i can't get through it without crying no matter how many times i hear it

The most powerful scene from one of my favourite movies, 'As It Is in Heaven'. It's about a world-class conductor who gets overwrought with the jet set life and moves back to his childhood village in northern Sweden. He decides to lead the amateur church choir, and when he learns that one of the members, Gabriella, is in an abusive relationship, writes this song for her to solo, so that she may gain some validation from outside and eventually break free. Such a moving film, and great composition, I can't recommend it enough.

@@dlind1985 I have :) and I did, but I still think that he would enjoy the English version, I always find that music hits that much deeper in our own laguage. Normally I think that the expression "lost in translation" is particularly true when it comes to music but that is an excellently translated set of lyrics which carries the meaning and heart of the piece very well. Not to mention that the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra lends a tad more oomph to the occasion :) Helen is of course - as always - Epic, and does a fantastic job. I just feel that being able to focus entirely on the performance with subconscious understanding of the meaning makes the experience more profound than having to put brainpower towards lyrics in the midst of it :)

Yes, you should watch the full movie - one of the best movies ever made! It's about opeing up, becoming free, speaking out. The film has so many powerful moments. What happened right before the song was that the character Gabriella didn't want to perform solo because she was afraid of how her abusive husband would react. A quick series of events then made a man explode at his childhood bully and break into tears, letting out everything he had been holding in for like 30 years. It might have been him completely letting everything go that convinced Gabriella that she could break free too, and so she decides to sing the solo.

Ive seen alot of reaction videos and I can honestly say that you are up there in the top 3 reactors! First of all, you dont bullshit but take everything serious and respect the artist. You have what most others lack in these videos and that is an authenticity in your feelings whether it's joy, sadness or just nostalgia. (Let's not forget the curiosity). And finally, you don't care what others may think of you, you do your own thing! My own favourite is yore reaction to Sabaton - En Livstid I Krig (Live). Best reaction video on KZbin, 5/5! (They perfomed that one in Scandinavium in Göteborg (Gothenburg) Sweden where I live! Nope I wasnt there! Good job, man!

Wow. I truly appreciate that. I always try to give each artist and each song my full attention. Otherwise it can be quite hard to catch all of the meaning that you are supposed to catch from each video. I am blessed to have all of you that are introducing me to such a vast array of music, feelings and emotions. Sometimes we all need to laugh, to cry, to feel. I try to remain respectful of the artist and their art. Even when there is the odd song that I don't like, you won't see me trash and thrash it in a reaction video because it is probably somebody out there's favorite song. It is also a lot of time and effort on the part of the artist that goes into putting their hearts and souls into these videos. I truly do appreciate your words. You got me a little choked up. Thank you again my friend.

An interesting thing is, and this is my interpretation of the movie; all the people in the audience, they knew very well of her abuse. Since it often times occurred even outside of their home. And nobody in the village ever did anything about it or tried to step in (as it happens in small villages in rural areas in the middle of nowhere). Everybody knows about a bad thing going on but as long as they're a part of the community nobody wants to intervene, at least I i think it's common in Sweden's rural areas. So they were a bit shocked by this performance, but when the spell of the song broke, they were ecstatic for her, finding a relief that she made a point in wanting to break free from him. Just a shame no one helped her. But like I said, typical swedish "holes" as we call them, these kinds of areas.

I do hope the subtitles aren't the official ones since in many places they are pretty bad. Not as in that they don't match. But in some places the translation is to literal while in others it actually isn't literal enough. The result unfourtunly is that it doesn't make the original lyrics justice. 😢 But in all fairness, it's the amazing performance that is the focus anyway. :)

ö is pronounced as in "bird" pronounced a bit round, closer to O than e.. SjÖholm- sh- ö as in bird - holm. Once again "Helén ShÖholm". Silent e on Helene, and emphasis on second e. Helén. Well, the movie is a spiritual question, and asks what is important in life compared to fit in a society and keep your mouth shut, even if you have an abusive partner.
