I worked at a restaurant in Portland, Oregon that was popular with visiting celebrities and I waited on many of them, from Madonna to Uma Thurman to Coach Phil Jackson, and many others. One day I had the misfortune to wait on Faye Dunaway. She was cold from the jump. Asked about every single ingredient in every dish and was disappointed with each one. Finally she settled on a salad but wanted her own custom dressing which we tried to duplicate. She nixed at least 3 attempts to make a salad dressing she liked. She must have seen the frustration in my face, as naturally I was in the weeds with several other tables, so she said, I don’t think you and I are going to get along are we? I replied, no I don’t think we are and I will get you a different server. She was just cold and screwed up tight from the second she came in.

Supergirl was one of my favorites when I was a kid! Such a great movie. I feel like the attitude about much older actresses is substantially improving. Look at all the British dames still killing it -- Maggie Smith, Helen Mirren, Judi Dench -- just to name a few. Betty White is still a cult favorite. And who is going to stick their nose up at Meryl Streep or Jamie Lee Curtis? I think we're finally appreciating older women in movies and TV. ♥

I was a waiter in L.A. and Faye Dunaway would come in regularly. She was a lot a fun. Very sweet and funny. Also quite beautiful. Dunaway was one of the best tippers too. I’m curious how long ago Streisand was. It seems like James Brolin calmed her down a lot, but I could be wrong. I’m not a big fan of Streep but is it possible “cold” was actually just shy? I think a lot of shy people in their personal lives can come off as cold and aloof when it’s not that.

The lesson is NOT to "always trust the DP"! The lesson is Faye made sure that she was lit properly, something that goes back to the earliest days of film-making, especially for women, when all of the great stars had their own cameramen who knew how to photograph them. There's a new documentary about Faye Dunaway and it actually starts with her in the present day, looking old, and being a very fussy and snotty perfectionist about the lighting. And this goes on and on, very awkward and uncomfortable to watch.......and then suddenly, *voila*, she looks fantastic, she looks exactly like Faye Dunaway. She was right all along! And she's now relaxed and friendly, being interviewed. Good documentary, great actress. If she was a nightmare to work with, what do I care? Doesn't change Bonnie And Clyde or Chinatown or Network or Barfly one bit! Nobody could be worse than Peter Sellers.

@@HoldenNY22 That's true of male actors but female actors still have to fight harder, especially when they get older, to get roles. Unless they're able to create projects for themselves to act in. Older actors like James Stewart, Henry Fonda, Lawrence Oliver, John Wayne, Jack Nicholson, Dustin Hoffman, Al Pacino, Lian Nieson, Patrick Stewart, they were still getting major film roles when they got older, but Bette Davis, Olivia de Havilland, Sophia Loren, Shirley McClaine, Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, they had to struggle because the parts they could play were given to younger women. Hell, most recently actress Charlize Theron told a story about receiving a call when they were first casting for the 2017 Wonder Woman movie. But they were calling her about playing Wonder Woman...they were interesting in her playing Wonder Woman's mother!

He writes that he was in the elevator with Faye after a scene with Angelina. Incongruously, I had the dubious pleasure of running into Faye Dunaway in the Bombay departure hall for the ferry to Goa. About 1983/4. Actually I heard woman shrieking "I'VE BEEN ROBBED". So naturally concerned, I pushed through the crowd and there she was. I asked her if I could do anything to help, but she snarled at me "OH YEAH BUDDY WHADDYA GONNA DO". What's been been stolen? "MY PURSE!" And where was it? It had been sitting in the top of a basket... I guess she didn't see the numerous signs warning of pickpockets...

Unless I’m interpreting your comment incorrectly, I disagree. Off the top of my head: Annette Bening, Jamie Lee Curtis, Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, and of course Frances McDormand. McDormand and Curtis constantly speak out against others doing it. Curtis admits she used to partake and even had a couple of things reversed. McDormand on the other hand pretty much shames those who do it and even those who don’t speak out against it. These stances probably come pretty easily to Curtis and McDormand because, interestingly, each has been married since 1984 to genius writer/directors. This surely contributes to a removal of anxiety over not being offered roles (because their acclaimed husbands are capable of writing one), and having to deal with the frustrations and insecurities of post-1984 dating life where vanity reigns supreme. That same level of anxiety and insecurity is what causes many actresses, and women in general, to consider going under the knife or Botox needle.

She came into a restaurant I was working, and ordered a sandwich. She then proceeded to insist, “ I WANT A MAN TO MAKE MY SANDWICH” I proceeded to tell her that there is no man here, only me, and that I would make her a wonderful sandwich. She kept yelling, “BUT I WANT THE MAN TO MAKE MY SANDWICH”. She held up a long line. She eventually conceded and ordered a salad.

That's ridiculous to say that Faye Dunaway was a perfectionist with lighting because she was aging. She probably has more refined sensitivities to lighting variables and how they impact how you look on camera. I would not assume it was age.

It was. I’m reading a book about the making of “Mommie Dearest” and she’s doing the exact same thing in that film from multiple sources. There were both cast and crew that flat out refused to work with her again.
