Thank you again! I’m still trying to figure out how to get past the ugly phase. Sometimes I put them away and sometimes I push through. My biggest obstacle is panicking in the ugly phase and trying to “fix” the painting while it’s still wet. 😖 Thank you again for the amazing content and help!❤

I would say I tend to have a harder time with finishing rather than starting a painting. Probably because of this ugly stage you talk about. Thanks for the help.

It’s really part of the process. Keep going 😘

The ugly stage really IS a thing!! I feel as though every single piece of art I've created has only come together in the last 5 minutes of my process LOL! And some of my paintings have taken me 20 hours to create, yet it didn't look "right" until I got to the very end! I think this happens to all artists, of all levels of experience - so it's definitely TRUE about the ugly stage, which is why it's so important to just trust the process and push through 💪💪 Thank-you Helen, for encouraging us all to do so, and gorgeous leaf painting too, by the way 😘😎🤗❤🐝

Identifying the "ugly stage" is difficult, but I always push through, even to the point of over working. But I don't throw them away. Each one is a learning experience. There is so much learning by practice with paper and paint. Knowing what your supplies are capable of takes a lot of practice and trial and error. I want to start making notes on what I could have done better; what I think went wrong, etc. Eventually you find the paint and paper that works best for you. BTW: I hate pan paint. Even between the same brands, tube vs. pan are different. I write this after investing A LOT of money in a hand-made-in-Italy 48 set. The paints are so different (not bad) from my Sennelier tube favorites, it has become a new learning process.

Hi Erica. I absolutely agree with you. It’s important to push past and as you say, keep them as a learning experience. Also, I completely agree with you again about the supplies. It’s knowing how different paints react to different papers, all make a difference. X

Also I think my paper absorbs too much water bc it was so hard to get paint to spread when doing wet on wet!
