Those Flashe paints are on my NEXT list! I’m not fond of acrylics and they look like a happy alternative. The use of your haul one year on is impressive! I’m loving your recommendation for the gelatos. They gave that extra little punch to my landscapes. 😊

Hi Lisa, the Flashe paints ARE acrylic paints. They are matte, thick, professional grade ones, that dry fast. An unsolicited word of advice: don’t use your good watercolor brushes with any acrylic paints. Cheers!
@helencryer
@helencryer 2 күн бұрын
This is what the website says: "Flashe paint is made from a unique resin compared to traditional acrylics. This allows the intensity of the pigments and luminosity of the colours to be unleashed while drying perfectly flat without brushstrokes leaving a smooth velvety finish that doesn't look at all plasticky." So it sounds like they're not quite the same. I quite like acrylics, but I love the texture and finish of these more! Glad you're enjoying the Gelatos, Lisa!

@@helencryer Dang it! I genuinely thought they are like any other acrylic paints, even though I realized they don’t have the same look once you use them. But I like them very much and I’ll continue to use them. As Helen mentioned in her video, they have a few unique hues not found in any other brand, which I consider to be gorgeous and very useful to me. Thank you for the clarification.

When I had brushes I didn't quite enjoyed because of their shape I gave them a little haircut 😂. It worked out quite well though i was scared of completly ruining them but I thought if I don't use them the way they are and can't really give them to anyone I could at least try to make them more usable. One brush ( probaly 20+ years old) had several "haircuts" now and is my favourite texture brush.
@helencryer

I've done that before! I have a lovely travel Tintoretto brush that was just wayyy too pointy, that I gave a careful haircut to, and now it's perfect! I'll still keep some longer point ones though, for the few times I might need them.

Yup, def one of my favourite of your "hauls". I bought the Le Franc Borgois but only the tester as the price is prohibitive over here. I LOVE them and altho haven't used them in any "pieces", I love mixing them and making fabulous colours 😆! I will use them in a mixed media piece at some point as I think they'll match really well with my Neo IIs, of which, thanks to you, I now own every single colour expect the metallics 🤭. And my goodness, you should see my storage solution for them 😀 - thank you Temu! I'm going to start calling myself Helen soon as I'm completely obsessed with making every single storage solution perfect for my studio! Anyway, thanks again for this onc, really interesting. Hope you're having a fab weekend in paradise x

They're such nice paints aren't they?! And so good with mixed media. 😂 I want to see the storage solution!!! I'm only keen on good storage because I'm so impatient that I know I won't use stuff if it's not easily accessible and easy to get the exact colour I want!

Since the liquitex are the only ones reporting pigments and lightfastness, maybe a matte spray at the end would resolve the matte finish issue. :)

Wow that's been a quick year. Since I only started watercolor in 2022 and then branched out from there, most of my art supplies are under two years old. Except for my Jo Sonja matt acrylic paints, some of them are a lot older. My daughter has started using those so I've replaced a few nearly empty tubes and picked some new colors. I do like the Flashe paints in the jars, it would be nice if the Jo Sonja paints came in jars or bottles. Just today we were trying to find a way to store the tubes in a way that we can see the lid end because the top of the tube is clear and you can see the paint color that way. Hubby might build us a box with sections so we can sort them into colors, that way we can either store them lid up or lying down with the top showing. I'm not sure which will be better but it beats rummaging through a box like we do now.
@helencryer
@helencryer Күн бұрын
Not heard of the Jo Sonja ones - my tube acrylics are just stored in a shallow IKEA drawer which I can pull out and dump on the table next to me - so I still need to rummage. If I used them more than for just gel plate stuff, I'd have to come up with a better solution too.
